A national police officer was killed in a shootout in Burgos after stealing a colleague's weapon and fleeing

A 46-year-old national police officer who was being investigated by Internal Affairs for a drug matter put agents of the National Police and the Civil Guard in serious trouble this morning in a town in Burgos. The flight from Galicia that began yesterday afternoon after stealing a colleague's weapon ended with the agent killed at a gas station in Villagonzalo Pedernales.

As EL MUNDO has learned from sources of the investigation, the agent stole the regulation pistol from a colleague yesterday afternoon after entering the locker room and, from Galicia, took a car to Burgos. The agent was on psychological leave and his pistol had been taken from him.

A National Police patrol followed him during the tour and upon reaching the entrance to Villagonzalo Pedernales, they notified the Civil Guard to request support.. They wanted to avoid putting public safety at risk, aware of their partner's state of nervousness.

The agents intercepted him on the N-231 and when he was stopped, the same sources specify, the fugitive got out of the car with the gun in his hand and fired up to four shots. Later, he took refuge in a gas station. It was 04:00 in the morning.

Finding himself cornered, they continue, the policeman began to shoot, at which point the rest of the agents tried to repel the bullets and shot him down.

The deceased police officer, a native of Ferrol, and stationed at the Lonzas police station (A Coruña), was immersed in an Internal Affairs investigation for a drug trafficking case for which he had recently been arrested.

The agent, from whom the weapon had been withdrawn, was on psychological leave and since last Tuesday, April 18, had passed to second activity due to insufficient psychophysical aptitudes, a situation that was pending notification.

The dangerous journey that he signed began yesterday, when he appeared at the Galician police station where he was assigned to carry out an administrative procedure in relation to his employment situation.

Later he went to the locker room where he has his locker, a moment that he took advantage of to steal another policeman's weapon by forcing the closet where it was stored, the same sources indicate.

When this agent noticed the theft of his weapon, a large device was launched to locate it, since it was certain that the now deceased was responsible for the theft and that he had fled by road in a vehicle.

Both the Civil Guard and the National Police tried to intercept him before his arrival in the city of Burgos, but he ignored the instructions.. At first he fired at the agents who stopped him and continued his flight to the town of Villagonzalo Pedernales, where a second shooting took place that ended with his death.
