A woman has been detained this Friday by customs officials at the Chennai airport, India.. The woman had traveled by plane with a total of 22 snakes of various species and a chameleon inside her luggage, as reported by the Indian Express newspaper.

From the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs of India they have shared images of the animals, which were being transported in the passenger's checked suitcases, inside plastic boxes sealed with insulating tape.

The woman was traveling from Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on flight AK13. Upon arrival at Chennai airport and through customs, the police discovered the specimens.. After examining his luggage, they seized 22 snakes of various species and a chameleon.

As reported by Chennai Customs in a tweet, they confiscated the woman's animals under the Customs Act 1962 in conjunction with the Wildlife Protection Act 1972.

However, this is not the first case that occurs at the Indian airport. Earlier this year, in January, customs agents found and intercepted another passenger's luggage containing 45 pythons, three marmosets, three-star tortoises, and eight corn snakes.. After the discovery, the animals were deported to Bangkok, Thailand, their place of origin.
