Irene Montero accuses Ayuso's "wild right" of putting LGTBI rights at risk

The Minister for Equality, Irene Montero, has assured that “no man from Madrid deserves to endure one more day of the savage right represented by Ayuso and Almeida”, remarking that his obligation in these elections is to “throw them out democratically”.

“Families in the Community of Madrid are freer when there is Pride and when our children can develop freely and not go into a closet,” he said.

Both Montero and the Secretary General of Podemos and Minister of Social Rights, Ione Belarra, have participated in the first major campaign event for Podemos in Madrid, which took place in the Pedro Zerolo de Chueca square, and where they wrapped up their candidates for the Presidency of the Community of Madrid, Alejandro Jacinto, and for Mayor of the capital, Roberto Sotomayor.

In this first landmark event of the campaign, Podemos has focused on its defense of LGTBI rights and feminism, claiming the “resounding victories” that it has achieved in this field from the Government, such as the approval of the trans law, and It has spared no criticism of the PSOE for its reluctance regarding these and other initiatives by its government partner.

Belarra, for example, has pointed out that when “wild media pressure” was unleashed against the trans law, Podemos was the one who “held firm” while the PSOE “bought much of the reactionary and shameful arguments” against the law.

And of the law of only yes is yes, Belarra has pointed out that “it is a reference in the world” but this despite “the setbacks” that the PSOE “forced” to assume.

Finally, Montero has asked to vote “with memory” on May 28, thinking of those who “fought” for LGTBI rights years ago “risking beatings, jail and murder.”

Belarra, for her part, has called on the purple militancy to explain that Podemos, which according to polls is on the edge of the 5% of votes needed to enter the Madrid City Council and Assembly, is “the strategic vote” to be able to stop to the Madrid right.
