The judge archives the 'Villarejo case' for the former head of the UCAO Enrique García Castaño for the stroke he suffered

SPAIN

The judge of the National Court Manuel García Castellón, who is instructing the 'Villarejo case', has agreed to archive the case for the former chief commissioner of the Central Operational Support Unit (UCAO) of the Enrique García Castaño Police due to the stroke he suffered in May 2022.

This is indicated by legal sources and this is reflected in an order of the separate piece 'Kitchen', in which the magistrate responds to the request made in March by the commissioner's defense and, in addition to filing the case for him, requires his legal representation to submit the corresponding medical reports in June “so that they can be examined again by the forensic doctor” of the National Court.

It was on March 23 when the commissioner's lawyer again requested the provisional file “for medical reasons and sudden mental incapacity, and as a consequence his inimputability.”

In addition to 'Kitchen', where the alleged espionage of former PP treasurer Luis Bárcenas is being investigated, García Castaño was listed as being investigated in the main piece of the 'Villarejo case' –Tandem case– where the business group of commissioner José Manuel is being investigated Villarejo (CENYT) as a criminal organization and money laundering crimes; in the so-called 'BBVA piece', and in the 'King' project, relating to some work in Equatorial Guinea.

The former head of the UCAO has already been prosecuted for piece 21, about the alleged espionage commissioned by Repsol and Caixabank against the then president of Sacyr, Luis del Rivero; and 'Marbella', for inquiries against a businessman from Marbella.

It should be remembered that he was also being tried for the pieces 'Iron' and 'Land', respectively referring to alleged espionage work against a law firm and against individuals in the framework of a family dispute over the inheritance of the owner of the luxury development The Estate (Madrid).

However, on May 24, 2022, the court that directed this first trial for 'Tándem' agreed to suspend it for García Castaño, due to his state of health, after a forensic doctor from the National Court issued a report that proved its seriousness. and explain that for another six months he would not be able to determine the definitive consequences of the stroke.
