Interior appoints the head of Civil Protection as the new general director of the Civil Guard
The Council of Ministers will appoint Leonardo Marcos, current director general of Civil Protection and Emergencies, as the new director general of the Civil Guard, as reported this Friday by the Ministry of the Interior.
Marcos will replace the until now general director of the body, Mercedes González, who has to resign from the position due to her inclusion in the lists by the PSOE on the next 23-J after a mandate of only two months, the shortest in democracy.
As Interior recalls, at the head of Civil Protection, this area has been strengthened and strengthened through new instruments and coordination mechanisms “that have considerably increased its efficiency.”. Thus, he adds, “it has been verified in episodes such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the volcanic eruption on the island of La Palma, the Filomena storm, the DANA and other disparate meteorological circumstances.”
The new general director of the Civil Guard is from Valderas (León) and has a degree in Law from the Autonomous University of Madrid. He completed the Senior Management program at the National Institute of Public Administration and belongs to the Superior Corps of State Civil Administrators.
