The Government of Gibraltar has indicated in a statement that the tasks to clean up the oil from the spill that occurred this past Tuesday are progressing “at a good pace” and that these works are being carried out on the coast of the Rosia Bay area..

However, due to the presence of some oil veil stains on the coast and rocks in the area, the red flag continues to fly on Camp Bay beach, where ships continue to combat floating oil with absorbent booms..

The Government of El Peñón has recalled that its port remains closed to 'bunkering' operations -oil supply maneuver between two ships-, although this circumstance, they have qualified, is reviewed daily to determine if it is maintained or reversed.

In this way, the cleaning work will continue during this weekend, for which the public has been asked to respect the red flags that are in force and that they will return to yellow “as soon as it is safe”.

For the moment, Gibraltar has estimated between 1,000 and 2,000 liters of fuel spilled into the sea after the accident that occurred this past Tuesday, August 1 at around 08:22 a.m. in the southern part of the Poniente Anchorage, when the ship Gas Venus, with the flag from Panama, was receiving fuel from another ship and experienced an overflow from its tanks.

Most of the spilled oil has been concentrated in the Camp Bay, Rosia Bay and Little Bay areas, with a part of the area known as Seven Sisters also affected.. A spill that for the moment has not reached the coasts of the province of Cádiz.
