The PP calls for an event on September 24 in Madrid "in defense of the equality of Spaniards"
The PP is going to call an event on Sunday, September 24 in Madrid so that society can show its “rejection” to “any instrument that is proposed outside the law” with the “sole objective” that the President of the Government in office can “get a series of votes that he needs to remain in power”. In this way, the national leadership of Genoa wants to make visible the possibility that the PSOE is willing to grant judicial benefits to those convicted of the illegal 1-O consultation in Catalonia to re-edit the coalition at the head of La Moncloa, as they demand. the independence parties.
The announcement of this “great event” with speeches was made this Wednesday by the general secretary of the party, Cuca Gamarra, who pointed out that the event will be held in an open place “if time permits” to facilitate participation. “We Spaniards have not dreamed that there is talk about an amnesty, we have data, facts, statements and silences that confirm it, silences on the part of Pedro Sánchez himself, who has said absolutely nothing about all this, and the members of the Government that does not speak out on this but that questions and attacks any democrat who takes a position against (…) agreeing with those who promoted an attack on the constitutional order,” he said in an interview on Antena 3.
The popular have called their event a day after José María Aznar called for the mobilization of civil society against the forgetting of the crimes of the process. In this regard, the former president assured that “we must say again, enough is enough!”, in reference to the general cry of the Spanish people against the kidnapping and subsequent murder of Miguel Ángel Blanco at the hands of ETA in 1997, because “Spain cannot return and will not return to a system based on exclusion, sectarianism, or the programmed destruction of the nation.
“In the face of the amnesty we are going to respond from the political sphere, but also from the social sphere,” Gamarra has warned, in turn, who has also insisted on the message that “there is only one alternative” to this situation: ” A minority government with the person who won the elections at its head, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, and with an approach of State pacts to move forward so that this country is not in the hands of politicians who condition governability to agreements that are at the margin of the law.”
The event will have a clear leitmotif, as this newspaper has learned: “In defense of the equality of Spaniards”. This will be the motto that the popular people will begin to use in all their events starting next week, according to the same sources.
It will be a single outdoor event, but without a demonstration. In other words, a concentration with speeches. The end, that of Feijóo, will mark the starting signal for what the PP wants to be a “new leadership” of the center-right space, either from the opposition, or from another electoral campaign, if there is no investiture of Sánchez either.
In addition, the PP will also “support” other initiatives such as that of the Catalan Civil Society, which has called a demonstration for October 8 in Barcelona – which the president of the Community of Madrid, Isabel Díaz Ayuso, has already confirmed that she will attend. -, to be “at the side of all those citizens who freely and democratically want to say that in their name there is neither an amnesty nor a self-determination referendum”. “And even less so that there is one to, politically, buy votes and thereby stay in power,” stressed the number two of the party.
Regarding the “informal contacts” that the popular have maintained with Junts per Catalunya, Gamarra has defended that when Feijóo learned of the party's demands for a “flight from Justice” to facilitate an investiture “it did not take him even an hour to be forceful”. To which he added: “If he accepted the conditions that [Carles] Puigdemont has set, he would be president. But the key is that he says no because Spain cannot pay that price. And someone who wants to serve his country cannot be willing to pay that price that goes against the coexistence of the country you want to serve to come to power.”
Meeting with UPN
For his part, the leader of the PP received this Wednesday in his office the president of the Navarro People's Union (UPN), Javier Esparza, whom he thanked for his party's support for his investiture.. According to sources from Genoa, both have shared that “an amnesty in exchange for an investiture is blackmail to the State that cannot be tolerated.”.
They have also agreed that “the best thing for the citizens would be a great State agreement in which the great political forces of this country are involved”, because they consider that “it would provide greater stability, certainty, moderate policies and essential reforms, which is exactly what the Spaniards demanded from us at the polls on July 23.”
Furthermore, in the PP they have indicated that Feijóo has invited Esparza to join the great event for the equality of Spaniards that his party is going to organize in Madrid the last weekend before the plenary session for his investiture, scheduled for the 26th and the September 27th. However, when journalists asked the president of UPN about this invitation, he responded that they had not discussed the matter, although he defended the mobilizations that may occur, Europa Press reports..
