Lightning strikes a couple after hitting the beach during a storm
Two people, a woman and a man, died last Friday on Maruata beach, in the Mexican town of Michoacán, after lightning struck them and killed them.. The woman died instantly, while the man died shortly after in the hospital.
The event was recorded in a video, which went viral on social networks this Monday. The local media La Voz de Michoacán has reported that the two deceased were a couple from the Mexican city of León, who was in the state on vacation doing tourism with other members of their family.
While the two people were walking in the sand on a stormy day, lightning struck them. Several relatives who were there ran to help them and requested help from the doctors of the Mexican Navy and Navy Secretariat, who confirmed the immediate death of the woman, Elvia de Jesús, 33 years old.
The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was still alive and was taken to a hospital to receive medical attention, but he also ended up dying.
The Pacific coast of Mexico is on red alert due to electrical storms. The Mexican meteorologist Abimael Salas Garza has reacted to the video and has warned the population of the danger of going outside with these storms: “We should not be outdoors, in lakes, beaches, parks, golf courses, soccer fields, etc.. Always stay away from trees, poles or any tall object,” he warned.
