Four adults and a child died this Saturday when the small plane in which they were traveling crashed in a residential neighborhood in the municipality of Jaboticabal, in the interior of the Brazilian state of São Paulo, official sources reported.

The accident of the “single-engine” type aircraft took place on an avenue in Jaboticabal around 09:00 local time (12:00 GMT), according to the Fire Department on social networks.

The device, manufactured in 2012 and with all the papers in order to fly, fell from the sky and, after hitting the ground, caught fire, indicated a source from the Fire Department.

Brazilian authorities found the five fatalities “charred.”

The Police have gone to the scene to clarify the causes of the accident, although the preliminary investigation indicates that the plane exceeded the maximum permitted passenger capacity for that model.

Jaboticabal is located about 350 kilometers from São Paulo, the most populated city in Brazil and capital of the state of the same name, which is the richest and most industrialized in the country.
