The PSOE is divided on the amnesty motions

The motions on amnesty that are being voted on in State institutions have caused a division effect in the PSOE. There is no unanimity in the position. In the Parliament of Catalonia, the PSC said it will vote against all ERC and Junts resolutions on the amnesty. In the cities of Madrid and Toledo, however, this initiative has been avoided, as in Badajoz or La Rioja.. And in places like Ares (A Coruña), 3 of the 6 socialist councilors chose to abstain.

For weeks now, the Government and the PSOE have been preparing the ground for an agreement with ERC and Junts on the amnesty. An agreement that allows the investiture of Pedro Sánchez. At the same time, the PP promoted motions in city councils and regional chambers against the processing of an Amnesty Law or generalized non-individualized pardon.. Added to this is that ERC and Junts have agreed in the Catalan Parliament on an initiative according to which they will not invest Pedro Sánchez if the socialist candidate does not first commit to “working” for a referendum, in addition to approving the amnesty.. The socialists reject this approach and staged it with a joint statement from the PSC and the PSOE.

Pedro Sánchez's roadmap is based on “dialogue to overcome the division and not to deepen the rupture and discord,” stated the note from the PSC and the PSOE.. And there is a formula about amnesty, but not a consultation: “There is no possible progress along that path.”. As this newspaper has reported, it has been clear for some time in La Moncloa that there would be a repeat election rather than a consultation.. “The path is that of coexistence and cohesion, understanding and the economic and social progress of Catalonia and the rest of Spain, always within the Constitution.”

These amnesty proposals are forcing the socialists to have to position themselves before knowing what Sánchez is negotiating with the independentists. A Sánchez who yesterday, in a meeting with social democratic MEPs, insisted that he will repeat the government “in a short time”. In Madrid, with former minister Reyes Maroto as leader, and in Toledo, with former mayor Milagros Tolón – current president of the Federal Committee of the PSOE – they did not reject the amnesty. The municipal group of the PSOE in Toledo is very close to Pedro Sánchez in a community where the party is led by Emiliano García-Page, who disagrees publicly and conspicuously on the issue of dialogue with the independentists and the concessions.

«The PSOE was always in the Constitution. When the PSOE governs, the equality of all citizens is guaranteed, rights are expanded and most importantly: the Constitution is complied with throughout Spain,” defended Reyes Maroto in Madrid.. The PP clung to that “was” to censure the socialists, pointing out that they are no longer socialists. In Toledo, the PSOE tried to counteract the PP initiative by presenting a “for coexistence and equality in Spain” that proposed “continuing to make dialogue, within the constitutional framework, the tool to improve coexistence in Spain.”. PP and Vox knocked it down.

A peculiar case occurred in Ares. In this municipality of A Coruña, the mayor, Julio Iglesias, a socialist, gave his councilors freedom to vote. Three abstained, while the mayor and two other colleagues rejected the PP initiative.

In statements to Europa Press, Iglesias explained this freedom on the basis that “neither the PSOE has approved any resolution on the amnesty nor did the Government put any project on it nor was it in the PSOE's electoral program.”

Felipe VI appeals to "calm and the will to understand different points of view" in "matters that mark our future and our present"

The La Toja Forum has lost its president this year, Josep Piqué, and has not replaced him with anyone because the alma mater of this debate space, Amancio López Seijas, believes that the former Foreign Minister is irreplaceable. The fifth edition of the Forum that brings together politicians, economists, philosophers, thinkers, business executives, senior officials and representatives of the extinct two-party system and the nationalisms of yesteryear on the island of La Toja every year, with Mariano Rajoy at the helm, has been conceived almost as a posthumous tribute to the deceased Piqué. The Galician businessman who devised this call wants to maintain the event at the beginning of autumn as an oasis of calm in the midst of ambient noise.

The Forum has also lost its host for the last four editions, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, who for obvious reasons remains in Madrid awaiting the second vote for his investiture.. Feijóo will be in La Toja on Saturday closing the conference. He is replaced by the Galician president Alfonso Rueda.

King Felipe VI has put the inauguration of the Forum on his agenda every year on this island-oasis, a unique place that seems safe from all conflicts.. The head of state is comfortable giving relevance to a space for meeting and debate about the different crises that afflict parliamentary democracies and the new challenges of the liberal order. In his opening speech at the Forum, with a passage in the Galician language, the King referred to the crises and changes in the world, although with words that seem to have been said for the situation in Spain.. “Continuous adaptation is an arduous task and that is why we need broad areas of agreement, concertation and certainty in what is permanent, in the values, virtues and timeless capacities in the creation of a more humanized humanity that is more aware of its survival”. The Monarch made a hymn to “calm and the will to understand different points of view” in reflecting on “the issues that mark our future and our present.”

Felipe VI included in his speech an element of optimism that is common in his messages in different areas. “There is no situation or problem, no matter how complex, that cannot be faced as an opportunity.”. “Recovering and enhancing optimism and confidence in our strength and in ourselves, in our representative democracies is a necessary first step to move towards freer, more integrated and more prosperous societies.”

The head of state would have enough reasons for restlessness and pessimism in the face of different difficulties. Starting with their family conflicts and ending with the penultimate institutional crisis of frustrated investitures and unknowns about a future government formation or electoral repetition.

Former president Felipe González has been one of the most enthusiastic participants of the La Toja Forum. His hand in hand with former president Mariano Rajoy was the highlight of the conference in all four editions. Both aces have shouldered the defense of the Transition and the imperfect two-party system that guaranteed the stability of the Spanish governments until 2015.. González has been absent in this fifth edition because he does not think it is appropriate to participate in a political debate forum in the middle of the inauguration of a candidate for president of the Government.

Atlético beats Osasuna without a fight, two blows and two goals

Simeone, like a good Argentine, speaks fluently, but his team's football does not lend itself to preliminaries. Atlético de Madrid does not court rivals, it enters them directly, as if both had matched on Tinder. If you can score without kneading the ball, the better. Two blows, two goals. It's not that he despises possession, make no mistake, it's that he values it as something qualitative, not quantitative.. And there is no better representation of that than Lino.

The Brazilian, with some hesitation in the preseason, has settled into Cholo's eleven on his own merits. He is a buffalo in defense and attack but, when he stops, he has good footing and that is a treasure that Griezmann almost took advantage of in the early stages of the game at the Sadar, as Morata did in the derby last Sunday.

He would do it shortly after, after a cross from the Brazilian that Morata failed to finish.. The Frenchman collected a rebound from Aitor, who is horrible in the play, and finished, almost without an angle and in a semi-miss into the back of the net. As I said, not a bouquet of flowers.

The French is sweet. In fact, he is among the top 5 players in Europe who participates in the most goals for his team.. The one who returned under his jurisdiction was Morata. Those about the mistakes and offsides, and their version was very far from the one shown against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Not so Saúl, whom Simeone praised in the preview, and rightly so.. The youth player has forgotten the star pretensions that brought him to London to return home with the “humility” that the Argentine coach highlighted.. That and the work have made him essential in a red and white midfield plagued by casualties.

Despite everything, and despite criticism from supposed experts and even colleagues, Cholo does appreciate the variants used by other teammates, better considered by this union and more bombastic in their game.. Hermoso, like Stones at Manchester City, stands in attack as a double pivot alongside Koke to help get the ball out. And that helps a lot to a sparsely populated midfield if we take into account that it is only occupied by three natural midfielders.. If he also saves several from Osasuna with providential cuts in defense. From 10.

Simeone's school

Another from Simeone's school is Arrasate. The Osasuna coach, who faces his sixth season on the red bench, has not been able to find the key this year. The team has personality and courage, but lacks success. They had two in the first half, both with direct play.

The first had been three passes until the ball reached Budimir who, when he saw Oblak, it became night. The second would be an individual play by Mojica whose shot at the short post almost dismantled the goal.. Beyond those two, highlight Chimy who, as always, harbored bad intentions but did not have support to attack the red and white goal.

However, his would be the mistake that could have given Osasuna the tie after a great collective play.. The Argentine, alone and without opposition in the athletic area, finished off due to poor body contouring in response to Areso's back pass.. The second part had just begun. It would have been a good psychological blow. And if not, ask Madrid. Two goals in the first five minutes of each half. A slab.

Kill or die

Despite the ruling, Osasuna decided to go out bare chested for the last 45 minutes of the match. They besieged Oblak's goal without the Cholo team being able to cross the middle line with the ball at their feet. The Argentine coach decided to take out Azpilicueta for Molina to shore up the trench in front of the goalkeeper.

The Slovenian, perhaps still stunned by the blow he had with Budimir, was on the verge of making a mistake when he lost a ball out of position that Hermoso had to save in extremis. Then he would redeem himself with a dry finish from Torró. Atlético needed him 100% because Osasuna's harassment grew with the minutes.

Controversy

So much so that he got a big scare in the 75th minute after a corner in the heart of the area that David García finished off without opposition.. Munuera saw a foul in attack, strange to say the least, and disallowed the goal to the frustration of Arrasate who would end up sent off.

On top of Atlético, five minutes later, a counterattack culminated between the two players fighting to replace Carrasco. Lino's pass and Riquelme's goal. Atlético invites you out, but when they have what they want, they send you home with the clothes in a bag. For dessert, several caresses between Morata and Chimy that earned them both a red card, but that's another story.

Atlético thus achieves its eleventh consecutive victory in the League against Osasuna. An impressive streak that brings them closer to the top positions after their six points in a row.

Simeone and Arrasate put the referees in the focus: "If I say what I think, I'm out for more games"

Jagoba Arrasate entered Dazn's post-match interview and you could see him biting his tongue before the question was asked. The rojillo coach had been expelled after angrily protesting a play that would have led to Osasuna's tie against Atlético de Madrid. The commentators explained that they had seen how Giménez pushed Aimar Oroz and he involuntarily hit Witsel. Munuera Montero, incomprehensibly, whistled for a foul on Oroz and canceled the subsequent header from David García that slipped into Oblak's goal..

“You already said it,” the red coach responded angrily before going fully into what had happened on the Sadar pitch.. “The treatment between the benches has been different from the beginning,” he complained and maintained that it is something they are used to, but he did not want to continue commenting on the controversy because, he insisted: “If I say what I think, I will be out for more games.”. The coach also mentioned that there was a lack of “freedom of expression” in LaLiga.

The coach was uncomfortable and his players were uncomfortable, who, like Pablo Ibañez, explained the game and assessed that the goal should never have been disallowed since the first one to push his teammate is Atlético's Uruguayan center back.. Furthermore, as can be seen in some frames, the ball had not been put into play before this entire sequence.. Another tough defeat for Osasuna, the eleventh in a row in the league against Diego Simeone's Atlético de Madrid.

The Argentine left very satisfied with his team's game and, above all, with the work of the two players who came to replace Carrasco. Lino and Riquelme received the highest praise from Cholo, but not the referee group that came out again in the post-match conversation with the Argentine coach and not precisely because of the controversial play of the match, which for the coach “had seen a Witsel hit” although He specified that he had not had time to see the play repeated.

Simeone entered the controversy that began with the words of the CEO of Atlético de Madrid, Miguel Ángel Gil Marín, revealed by Marca in which the manager assured that Real Madrid “adulterated the competition” with respect to arbitrations. “Gil Marín ends up saying what many do not want to comment. It is clear that after the match there was more talk about the referee than about what happened and I understand that it is a way of generating that stage fright that is generated when a referee receives what he received after the derby,” commented Simeone in the post-match..

This situation is generated as a result of some images from Real Madrid TV after the derby between Atlético and the merengue team in which they indicated that there had been several “blunders” by the referee team. “Four key mistakes” are cited during the match: a foul on Bellingham before Atlético's first goal, a hard tackle by Giménez that was not punished with a red card, a “badly disallowed” goal and a handball by Hermoso inside his own area.

The record taken from the legend Reinhold Messner or how technology rewrites the history of mountaineering

The Italian Reinhold Messner is considered by many experts – by almost everyone – as the best mountaineer in history. In 1986 he was the first to complete the 14 eight-thousanders without artificial oxygen and before and after he climbed the unclimbable, opened countless routes, explored the Earth, like this, in capital letters. The Everest, the Annapurna, the Gasherbrum I… There are paths towards the roofs of the planet that he created, but there are also paths in Antarctica or the Gobi.. In recent times, now retired – today he is 79 years old – he has been the protagonist of a thousand controversies, some even against his former teammates, but there has never been any doubt about his figure.. Until this week. Messner ya no es Messner. Or so the Guinness Book now says.

As recently published by the famous record archive, Messner never reached the summit of Annapurna in 1985 and, therefore, the following year, in 1986, he did not become the first to climb the 14 eight-thousanders without using cylinders.. Nor were those who followed him, the Swiss Erhard Loretan (1995) and the Spaniards Juanito Oiarzabal (1999) and Alberto Iñurrategi (2002), if not the fifth on the list so far, the American Ed Viesturs, who achieved it in 2005. History, rewritten. Mountaineering, in the air. What happened?

Advancement, technology. Until not long ago, to certify a promotion it was enough to visit Elizabeth Hawley, legendary journalist, creator of The Himalayan Database, and show her proof of the feat.. It was rigorous, requiring photographs or videos, testimonies from other climbers, answers to very specific questions, but it lacked support. His work was artisanal, solitary. That is why with the passage of time, and especially with the appearance of the Internet, it began to lose prominence to the benefit of the 8000ers website, its creator, Eberhard Jurgalski, and his team of researchers.. When Hawley passed away in 2018, in fact, it was already 8000ers who confirmed the summits, the achievements, the records. And 8000ers wanted to take rigor in the mountains to another level.

The peaks are not the peaks

In 2019, with high-resolution satellite images and the help of the German Aerospace Center, Jurgalski and his assistants demonstrated that in eight-thousanders such as Manaslu, Annapurna or Dhaulagiri, the majority of climbers never reached the true summit: they only stayed close.. According to their work, only three men, Viesturs, the Finnish Veikka Gustafsson and the Nepalese Nirmal Purja, completed the 14 eight-thousanders, the first two without artificial oxygen.. According to their work, Oiarzabal and Iñurrategi stayed on a secondary summit of Manaslu, they did not step on the summit. And according to his work, Messner, the legendary Messner, was five meters short of actually summiting Annapurna.. For all these reasons, last year 8000ers rewrote their list and asked the Guinness Book of Records to do the same..

Until this week, this investigation had raised a certain stir, but the majority of those affected refused to give it importance.. After all, there have always been debates of this nature in high places.. But after the Guiness Book's decision on Messner, a reference among references, Himalayanism raised its voice.

“The goal is not the top, it is the path. My mountaineering does not know about records!” Messner exclaimed upon learning of the withdrawal of his record with an attached photo on his social networks in which he is seen climbing a huge ice wall on his expedition to Annapurna in 1985.. “Last statement on records in mountaineering! There are none! There will never be any in mountaineering! I appreciate all mountaineers, every mountaineer who has carried out their experiences on the great walls of this world,” ended and many of his professional colleagues accompanied him in his speech. Even Viesturs himself, now elevated, rejected the change: “Messner was the first, that recognition must be maintained. “He led the way and other climbers, like me, followed in his footsteps.”

The debate for mountaineering is now complex. He can walk away from 8000ers and the Guinness Book of Records, but that would leave him without notaries to certify future exploits or he can, as Jurgalski's own researchers propose, reach an agreement. To return the best in history to their place, we would have to forget the idea of the existence of a single summit, an exact point where the mountain ends, and accept that there is an approximate summit area. Delimiting this, especially in complex mountains such as Manaslu or Annapurna, will be complicated, but it will be more difficult to accept that Reinhold Messner, considered by many experts – by almost everyone – as the best mountaineer in history, does not really know all the roofs of the mountain. world.

'Negreira Case': The judge extends the operation to the former arbitration leadership and confiscates documents from Sánchez Arminio and his team

The Court of Instruction number one of Barcelona ordered to intervene in the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) all the documentation linked to the Negreira case that affected the historic number one of Spanish arbitration, the recently deceased Victoriano Sánchez Arminio, and his main lieutenants. The order of entry and registration in the Technical Committee of Arbitrators (CTA), to which EL MUNDO has had access, authorizes the Judicial Police to confiscate all electronic devices and means of evidence that it considers appropriate to clarify the crimes investigated and extended the mandate to the entire former arbitration leadership.

In this way, the instructor stressed that, in addition to the documentation linked to Sánchez Arminio and his former number two José María Enríquez Negreira, the Civil Guard was authorized to confiscate any document linked to Ángel Franco González, also former vice president of the arbitration group.. Likewise, he extended the order to another veteran leader, the Galician referee José Ángel Medín Prego. The final objective of the judicial intervention is to document the degree of Negreira's influence in the CTA in relation to the promotion and demotion of members or their appointment to prominent parties.

As the Civil Guard pointed out in the report provided in the summary and revealed exclusively by EL MUNDO, Negreira thus had the capacity to considerably improve the remuneration of the members or, on the contrary, lower it.. Along these lines, the Judicial Police maintains that the former number two referee rewarded or punished the referees depending on whether or not they were like-minded and had direct control over the appointments.

This criterion, now shared by the investigating judge himself, completely contradicts that of the current heads of the CTA. Not in vain, the president of the referees, Luis Medina Cantalejo, and the former head of the RFEF, Luis Rubiales, have been maintaining in recent months that Negreira “didn't matter or make any important decisions.”

For his part, Negreira himself admitted his ability to intervene in these matters in the statement he gave to the Tax Agency in October 2019, long before the scandal broke out.

Then, the historic referee leader said that he dedicated himself to “reviewing the reports that the referees make after each game and scoring them.”. In view of which, he added, “the referee could be promoted in category”. He clarified that he did not earn anything for his work at the CTA and that, furthermore, he did not want to receive any remuneration because “he already had his company and was paid by FC Barcelona.”. In fact, he indicated that his main objective was to ensure that Barça's arbitrations were “neutral.”

The Civil Guard drew attention in its latest report on this issue by adding a hitherto unpublished element. He discovered that Negreira forced his son to divert part of the money he received in parallel from FC_Barcelona for arbitration advice. And he highlighted that the concepts by which this transfer of Barça money between son and father was justified had to do precisely with the score of the referees after the League matches.. Therefore, the Armed Institute points out that the circumstance occurred that FC Barcelona ended up paying Negreira for functions that corresponded to him in the CTA.

His appearance before the Treasury was the last time that Negreira gave his version about his million-dollar payments from the Catalan club.. He has recently claimed that he suffers from considerable cognitive impairment that prevents him from giving a statement and the judge has ordered that a forensic examiner examine him to verify if this is true.

When in 2018 he was relieved of his position at CTA and the Barça club stopped paying him, Negreira threatened Barça through two burofaxes revealed by this newspaper in which he recalled that he had been charging in exchange for “favors and confidences” and that if payments stopped, it would unleash a great “scandal.”

The press chief of the RFEF acknowledges pressure for Hermoso to sign that the kiss was consensual

The press officer of the women's soccer team, Patricia Pérez, declared in the National Court this Thursday that she had received pressure from Luis Rubiales and those around her for Jennifer Hermoso to give her approval, hours after the World Cup final. to a statement where it was said that Rubiales' kiss had been consensual. The judge investigating the Rubiales case has agreed to examine the messages on the mobile phones of Patricia herself and Jennifer Hermoso's brother.

Rafael Hermoso testified as a witness last Monday and ratified and expanded before Judge Francisco de Jorge the coercion reported by his sister. Today he returned to court to make his cell phone available and, with it, the messages exchanged after the World Cup final linked to Luis Rubiales' kiss to the soccer player.

As for Patricia Pérez, Poki, she has testified as a witness and also provided her terminal. Part of the interrogation has focused on the preparation of the statement with which a few hours before the incident the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) aired the thesis that Hermoso herself said that the kiss had been consensual.. The process of preparing the message is at the core of the crime of coercion that is investigated along with sexual assault.

Likewise, the person until recently responsible for integrity of the RFEF, Miguel García Caba, declared this Thursday. As in the case of the press officer, she has appeared as a witness, which means that the judge does not attribute criminal actions to either of the two.

A different case is that of the director of the Men's National Team, Albert Luque, and the former head of Marketing, Ruben Rivera, who had initially been summoned as witnesses this Thursday and, finally, will appear as investigated. Both have been accused of being responsible for the pressure on the player.. They are scheduled for October 10.

Before, next Monday, three of Hermoso's colleagues will testify before the judge and the Prosecutor's Office. These are Alexia Putellas, Irene Paredes and Misa Rodríguez, with whom the player supposedly vented her anger when she began receiving messages asking her to publicly support Rubiales' thesis.

The 'mini-Kadirov' beating of a prisoner for burning the Koran

Who. Adam Kadirov (born 2007) is the second youngest son of Chechen leader Ramzan Kadirov, an ally of Vladimir Putin in the Caucasus..

That. Adam beat up a 19-year-old man in prison for burning a Koran last August.

Because. He has been competing in martial arts since he was eight years old and his father has tried to turn him into a religious exponent of his authoritarian regime.

In 2013, Chechen religious scholars named 6-year-old Adam Kadirov “Russia's youngest hafiz,” a category applied to a person who has memorized the Quran by heart.. His father, the Chechen leader Ramzan Kadirov, has raised his children in a mixture of Islam, violence and autocracy: when the large-scale invasion began he sent them to the front and they are becoming increasingly important to take charge of the dynasty.. That is why it has not surprised anyone that he has beaten a detainee accused of burning his most sacred book.

Nikita Zhuravel, 19, was detained on charges of publicly setting fire to a Koran in the southwestern region of Volgograd. Unfortunately for him, the criminal case against him was transferred to the Muslim-majority republic of Chechnya after “multiple requests” from citizens of this region.

Russia's presidential human rights commission received a complaint from Zhuravel accusing Adam, the Chechen leader's 15-year-old son, of beating him while in detention.

Chechnya has promised to investigate the incident, but Putin's own viceroy in the Caucasus appears to have ended the discussion, proclaiming Monday that he is proud of his son for beating a prisoner accused of burning the Koran.. “He hit him and he did the right thing,” Kadirov said, adding that “anyone who violates any sacred scripture must be severely punished.”. He even shared the video of the attack.

Kadyrov has enjoyed generous funding from Putin in exchange for keeping Chechnya under control. You are also allowed to apply the law capriciously. The little Kadirov has inherited his father's punishing instinct. Adam Kadirov has been fighting since childhood. When he was eight years old, his fight in Grozny at the Grand Prix Ajmat 2016 mixed martial arts (MMA) tournament was shown on the Russian sports channel Match TV.

Officially, children under 12 years old are prohibited from participating in MMA competitions.. Not only was Adam not old enough. Ajmet, the firstborn, was 10 years old. Y Zelimkhan, 9. Kadyrov's offspring defeated their opponents in front of their father. This sparked criticism even within Russia: Fedor Emelianenko, veteran mixed martial arts champion (and who at the time was the president of the Russian MMA Union) said that it was “outrageous” that children of that age “beat each other while adults they look entertained». Adam continued to fight.

Chechnya's human rights defender promised to examine the attack on the detainee. But Russian investigators have already upped the ante and claimed that Zhuravel, originally from Ukraine, was paid to photograph Russian military sites for the Ukrainian secret services.

The cases are piling up and the Russian Parliament is charging against him. Adam Delimkhanov, a senior member of the security and anti-corruption committee of the lower house of the Russian parliament, said the young madman had “even acted very humanely” since Zhuravel is still alive after all. The Kremlin, which likes to present Russia as a bastion of anti-fascism and Christian essences, has preferred not to comment on this brutal episode.

Macron proposes limited autonomy for Corsica within the Republic

The French president, Emmanuel Macron, proposed this Thursday to give limited autonomy and “within the Republic” to the island of Corsica, so that it can have regulatory capacity over transferred powers, and the history and “particularity” of the island within the French Constitution.

In a two-day visit to the island, Macron has shown himself in favor of granting this autonomy, with conditions: it must be “fully Corsican” (without influence from other “Mediterranean territories”) and it will not be done “without the State or against the French State,” said the French president in a speech in Ajaccio before the Assembly, controlled by a nationalist majority.

This movement, which would require a reform of the Constitution, would recognize in the text the “insular, historical, linguistic and cultural community” of Corsica. Macron said: “Let us have the audacity to build autonomy for Corsica”. Also that “the status quo would be a failure for everyone.”

The president's maneuver, which he described in his speech before parliamentarians as a “historic moment”, improves the current status of the island, but he also does not give in to the key demands demanded by the nationalist parties, such as recognition of resident status, the co-official status of the Corsican language and the inclusion of the notion of the Corsican people in the Constitution.

Corsica is the fourth largest island in the Mediterranean, Napoleon Bonaparte was born there in 1769, and it has gone from being part of a region with Marseille to achieving a special status. Since January 2018, Corsica is considered a territorial community, and manages new competencies such as sports, transport, culture and the environment.

The island Executive has been led since 2015 by Gilles Simeoni, who heads a coalition of nationalist parties. He was re-elected in 2021 and defends this statute as “an aspiration of the Corsican people”. The statute of autonomy that we demand is part of the French Republic,” Simeoni told the president.. The right-wing opposition limited itself to demanding an adaptation of French laws to the specificity of the island. According to Bruno Retailleau, from the conservative group The Republicans, the nationalists' requests “cross red lines.”

Regarding the demands of the nationalists, Emmanuel Macron has recognized the need to promote the Corsican language, but it will not be recognized as a co-official language. “With this unprecedented constitutional recognition, I hope that the Corsican language can be better taught and placed at the center of the life of every Corsican,” said the president.

The political scientist André Fazi said in the pages of the newspaper Libération that Macron “plays to find a difficult balance. From a symbolic point of view the nationalist majority will remain disappointed by the lack of advances on the Corsican language or the notion of Corsican people”. From a practical point of view, “it gives those elected some normative power”, such as that enjoyed by some overseas territories.

It gives Corsica the possibility of adapting the law or repealing it in some aspects within some transferred powers, under the control of the Constitutional Council, but without the need to go through that of the French Parliament. Macron has not specified what these powers would be, although they could be “in areas such as urban planning, transport or agriculture,” according to Fazi.

Macron was in favor of “going through a new stage” in relations between the island and the State and at the same time “fully anchoring Corsica in the Republic”. Tensions with Paris grew after the death in prison in March 2022 of the militant Yvan Colonna, a symbol for nationalists, sentenced to life imprisonment for the 1998 murder of the prefect Claude Érignac. His death sparked a wave of riots.

The Government and authorities of the island have been working on the creation of this statute for a year. The road until, as Macron intends, this Corsican specificity is included in the Constitution is long and uncertain, since it implies a reform of it.

The president has given the island's politicians six months to work on a proposal (he said “without red lines”) on the new status of Corsica. “It is your wish, I share it and make it mine,” he said.. This document will have to be validated by the Government.

Afterwards, it will have to be voted first in the National Assembly and the Senate. To move forward, you need a majority in both chambers. It should then be adopted by referendum or voted on by a three-fifths vote in Congress.

The only limit that Macron has placed on the Corsicans in the drafting of this statute, he said, is “the ideal of the Republic, which must be strong enough to know how to better accommodate the aspirations and uniqueness of Corsica.”

Macron also participated in a tribute to the Corsican resisters, as this year commemorates the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the island from Nazi occupation, in October 1943.. Thursday is the fourth visit that Macron has made to Corsica. In 2018, the president already proposed mentioning the island in the Constitution, but the idea did not go ahead. This Thursday, unlike his other visits, he ended his speech with “long live Corsica”, “long live France” and “long live the Republic”.

Six dead and one survivor, tragic balance of the kidnapping of seven teenagers in Mexico

After three days of agonizing search around Villanueva, a small municipality in the Mexican state of Zacatecas, the authorities have located the bodies of six young people, between 14 and 18 years old, kidnapped last Sunday when they spent the night together in a family ranch. Along with them, the Police have rescued alive a survivor, whose identity has not been revealed, who is recovering from his injuries in a local hospital.. As revealed by the State Attorney General, Francisco Murillo, two people have been detained in Genaro Codinas, a municipality 70 kilometers from the scene of the events, as allegedly responsible for this kidnapping that has once again highlighted the serious security crisis that the State is experiencing. the North American country under the policy of hugs, not bullets, imposed by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador.

The disappearance of the seven young people occurred around 4:00 in the morning, when a group of armed men broke into several vehicles at the El Potrerito ranch, property of the parents of one of the victims, and took the teenagers away. for reasons that are still unknown. Héctor Alejandro Saucedo Acevedo, 17 years old, was on the property along with two first cousins, Jorge Alberto René Ocón Acevedo, 14; and Sergio Yobani Acevedo, 18; as well as four very close friends, Óscar Ernesto Rojas, 15; Diego Rodríguez, 17; Jesús Manuel Rodríguez, 18; and Gumaro Santacruz, of the same age. They all studied together at the local high school and were very close.. Their disappearance has shocked the town of Villanueva, with barely 14,000 inhabitants, which has mobilized to try to find them.

“I love my son, I love my children,” the mother of one of the victims screamed desperately before the media last Tuesday while participating, along with other relatives and neighbors, in a blockade of more than nine hours that was imposed in federal highway 65 that connects Zacatecas and Guadalajara. The pressure and indignation grew as the days passed without getting answers.. The actions of the authorities also generated a lot of tension. Several neighbors reported that on the night of the kidnapping, several shots and screams were heard from the El Potrerito ranch; The Police reject this hypothesis even though, coincidentally, they had a surveillance module installed just 200 meters from the property.

“Only words, no action, what are the immediate reaction forces for? (…) They say they are looking for 300 elements, well we don't see them, if it were the son of a politician they would have already found him, they would bring drones and the helicopter,” claimed one of the relatives before the media. The authorities also did not want to acknowledge that it was a kidnapping, claiming that no ransom request had been received. However, several families received threats on their mobile phones and several videos in which the young people were allegedly seen walking through the streets. a hill. Although the anti-kidnapping protocol was not activated, more than 300 agents from the Army, National Guard and Police were deployed during the operation.

After three days of searching, road blockades and tension in the streets of Villanueva, a command that flew over a remote and rural area by helicopter identified three bodies from above.. When the agents arrived on foot to the designated area, “which is difficult to access, since there are no roads to get there,” as confirmed by the Prosecutor's Office, they found one of the injured victims, along with six bodies that have been transferred to the capital of Zacatecas to be identified. According to several local media, these are the young people kidnapped last Sunday at the El Potrerito ranch.. The survivor of the tragedy was immediately transferred to the State General Hospital, where he is “stable” and recovering from two head injuries.

This event comes just one month after the kidnapping of five other friends in the town of Lagos de Moreno, in the neighboring state of Jalisco, a case that shocked the country due to the cruelty shown by the kidnappers, who released a video in which the victims were seen being forced to torture each other. These northern regions of the country are in the middle of the drug trafficking route to the United States and their control has become an object of dispute between the two hegemonic drug trafficking cartels that operate in Mexico: the Sinaloa cartel and the Jalisco Nueva Generación cartel.. Currently, Zacatecas has the second homicide rate in the country, with 87 per 100,000 inhabitants, exceeding half a thousand murders in the first eight months of the year.
