Alberto Dainese wins the rugged Íscar sprint while Kuss remains the leader
The Italian Alberto Dainese won this Friday in the sprint the 19th stage of the Vuelta a España, between La Bañeza and Íscar, after which the American Sepp Kuss is a little closer to the final victory.
The Italian beat his compatriot Filippo Ganna, who was second in a close finish, and the Dutchman Marijn Van der Berg, who came in third at the Íscar finish line.. He did it shortly after a hard fall in which four cyclists were involved, initially without serious physical consequences.
Dainese won a stage intended for sprinters before facing the penultimate stage of La Vuelta on Saturday in which Kuss could practically take the final victory.
The American from Jumbo-Visma continues to lead the overall standings ahead of his teammates Jonas Vingegaard, 17 seconds behind, and Primoz Roglic, 1 minute 8 seconds behind.
The three riders at hand complete the first triplet on the podium in Madrid, since the one achieved by the Kas-Kaskol formation in 1966.
On Saturday, the 20th and penultimate stage of La Vuelta will take place, 208 km long, with a leg-breaking route between Manzanares el Real and Guadarrama with ten third-category ports.
