Arbitral errors set fire to the descent
“Those two points can be very important for us”. The one who said this was the coach of Cádiz, Sergio González in the press conference after a draw between his team and Elche last January with a goal from Elche, in the 83rd minute, preceded by a clear offside. “Del Cerro has asked us for forgiveness for not canceling the goal,” he commented on the refereeing team's error.
The play, an offside that the VAR should have seen, “because it came for that”, according to the coach from Cádiz, generated a wave of official protests led by the Cadista president, Manuel Vizcaíno. The leader described it as “theft of points” and has appealed the decision to the highest sports authority, the Administrative Court of Sport (TAD) without prejudice to going to ordinary justice if Cádiz ends up being harmed at the end of the season or, what it's the same, go down. The TAD finally rejected the request of the Cadiz team to paralyze the competition in LaLiga.
Another of the biggest referee grievances suffered this season has been the disallowed goal against Real Valladolid against Sevilla because the referee, Miguel Ortiz Arias, considered that Escudero's shot had occurred out of time. Once again, the bitterness of the coach, in this case from Valladolid, before an action that “should motivate the team to push and pour out their anger on the field”.
And, again, the explosion of the president, in this case from Valladolid, Ronaldo Nazario. “This is inadmissible” he expressed in a tweet shortly after finishing the match that his team lost 0-3 against Sevilla. “Until now we have been silent trying to vindicate our dissatisfaction through official means, meetings and petitions, avoiding making a public exposure. But stop it already!”, he complained. The annulled goal would have meant the tie for the blanquivioleta team and one never knows how the game would have ended.
The last one was Griezmann's ghost goal against Espanyol in Cornellá. A complicated play for a referee, but one that should have saved the VAR. However, the video arbitration concludes that it was a goal when, in the broadcast of the match, no shot is offered to show that the French striker's ball has completely crossed the line. Something similar but in the other direction to what happened with the Japanese goal against Spain in the World Cup in Qatar.

From the parakeet team, through their coach Luis García, they have requested “the image in which it is seen that the ball enters clearly and clearly”. Griezmann's goal was the second for Atlético de Madrid against Espanyol, and even Simeone's team managed to get 0-3. However, in an exercise of pride, Espanyol came back and had the 4-3 in Joselu's boots, but missed the occasion.
With two days to go, there are seven teams (Espanyol, Valladolid, Cádiz, Getafe, Almería, Celta and Valencia) with just 5 points, playing for relegation. And, these arbitral decisions, could be capital. As the parakeet coach says, “you are playing with the work, feelings and money of many people.”
Income
And it is that going down to LaLiga SmartBank implies great changes in the structures of the clubs due to the decrease in income as they are in another category, especially that of television rights. Espanyol received the 21/22 season, 54.5 million euros, Cádiz, 47.53; Getafe, 54.55; Celtic, 53.16; and Valencia, 69.86.
However, the teams that came from LaLiga SmartBank such as Valladolid or Almería received 23.63 and 8.24 respectively. The blue and white team almost tripled the Andalusian because it was the subject of relegation aid since its drop in category had occurred in the year 20/21. Thus, these arbitration errors, many settled with the request for forgiveness by the referees, could not only harm many entities but end up with them claiming in ordinary justice.
Another controversial decision, but one that falls more into the field of hypothesis, is the controversial play by Valencia-Real Madrid that resulted in the expulsion of Vinicius Junior. If the referee had also sent off Hugo Duro, the white team could have put Che's victory in serious trouble and, with it, the permanence of Baraja's team. As we say, it enters the field of hypotheses even if it is, like the others, a serious arbitration ruling.
