Atlético beat Osasuna in the farewell tribute to Virginia Torrecilla
Yannick Carrasco, at the end of the first half, Saúl Ñíguez and Ángel Correa, already in the second, were in charge of capturing the superiority of a rojiblanco team that, once again, had one of its most incisive men in Antoine Griezmann, by far that the Frenchman was finally left without the goal prize. Jagoba Arrasate's team also took a toll on their lack of aim. Despite his arrivals, he never really disturbed a Grbic who, finally, managed to keep a clean sheet.
The first 45 minutes had in turn two very different parts. At the start, it was Atlético who showed themselves to be the most incisive, approaching the vicinity of the rojilla area again and again, especially through a Griezmann who managed to crash a couple of balls into the rival goal.. After half an hour, however, it was Osasuna who began to approach Grbic's domain more seriously, forcing the local defense to give up several corners. In one of them, precisely, Chimy Ávila had the best option for the visitors, although his shot missed very close to the post.
At the end of the first half, just when it seemed that both contenders would go to rest signing a goalless draw, Atlético finally took advantage of a loophole in Osasuna's rear to open the scoring. Griezmann, in an action on the counter and after a possible foul on Morata, won the back of the rojilla defense, planted himself in the rival area and gave the goal practically made to Carrasco so that the 1-0 finally went up on the scoreboard. The joy therefore would be somewhat tarnished by the strong blow to the neck that Morata took from a David García who attacked him almost as if he were a runaway merchandise and that he would have to be replaced by Correa.
Osasuna jumped onto the pitch at the restart willing to make a clean slate. And he was about to achieve it through Orloz and Budimir. But, despite the visiting attempts, it would be Atlético who would strike again. In this case, through Saúl Ñíguez who, after picking up a somewhat fortunate pass from De Paul, sent the ball practically where the spiders sleep to put the score at 2-0 with just under half an hour to go before the end of the match. The blow only appeased for a few moments the spirits of an opponent that would stretch its lines again in the final moments in search of, at least, to close the gap. However, it was Atlético, with a good shot by Correa, who finally put the game to bed with a 3-0 scoreline.
