Barcelona, thanks to its valuable victory this Sunday at the Martín Carpena Pavilion (79-90), resumed the initiative in the Endesa League semifinals against Unicaja and arrived tied (1-1) in Malaga after the two first dates at the Palau Blaugrana, so on Tuesday they will have the first opportunity to close the pass to the final on the Andalusian court.
The Catalan team managed to recover the home court factor with a hard-fought victory against Unicaja, who never gave up, despite the superiority, especially in the last quarter, of the Barca team, with Serbian forward Nikola Kalinic on court took off and weighed down the performance of the people from Malaga, who were not as successful as in the second game played in Barcelona.
The match began like the previous two, without both teams scoring in the first minutes, with great respect and too much fear of failing, until the compositor team put it one more gear, adjusted the defense and tried to surprise Barça, who opted for the same quintet from the second match.
The visitors knew that their only option to win was to defend and adjust the rebound both offensively and defensively, but Unicaja moved the ball perfectly, closed behind hard and, led by the American point guard Kendrick Perry and the success from the line of three, he managed to lead his rival by five points (17-12, minute 7).
It was the beginning, but Barcelona could not afford the mistakes it was making, so the Lithuanian coach Saruna Jasikevicius began to move the bench to find the best ones who could counteract Unicaja's momentum.
From that moment on, the Catalans changed and a 0-8 run, hard behind and Nikola Mirotic as the leader, closed the opening quarter with an advantage (17-20, min 10).
But Unicaja was not intimidated, they returned the partial 7-2 and returned to command the match (24-22, minute 11). The basket exchanges were constant, the equality was tremendous and both coaches changed defenses in search of solutions.
The crowd that filled the Martín Carpena was very tight but Barça did not slacken, nor did Unicaja, who knew that to have a chance of winning they would have to exceed twenty points in each period and was able to reach the break with an advantage (43-40 , minute 20).
The confrontation was going to be resolved by small details and one of them would be the free throws. The Catalan team had committed four personal fouls in the third quarter in two and a half minutes and found themselves outmatched in offensive rebounding, where Unicaja outperformed the Catalan towers (49-45, minute 23).
Also the forgetfulness is paid and in a meeting of so much tension nobody can be neglected. Unicaja had several defensive mismatches that the Czech point guard Tomas Satoransky took advantage of, who with two triples and eight consecutive points turned the score in favor of Barcelona (49-52, minute 26).
The entrance to the court of the Serbian guard Kalinic changed even more the decoration of his team, offering defense, assists and many helps behind, accompanied by the American forward Kyle Kuric. The moment was delicate for Unicaja (53-60, minute 28).
Barça's advantage did not diminish and Unicaja had many problems to overcome the aggressive defense of the Barça players, perhaps fresher, and they were not fine in the outside shot either, with rushed and hasty shots.
The situation was increasingly complicated for the team from Malaga, who lowered their performance in the last quarter. Barcelona played better, made few mistakes, closed the defensive rebound and set the best of the game with a three-pointer from Kalinic (64-73, minute 34).
Unicaja tried not to get away from the game, but they were always behind against a very serious Barça, accurate in the last period and who achieved a much-needed victory, recovering the home court factor and who can decide on Tuesday in this same scenario.
