Carlos Sainz's lament: "I have been a victim of frustration"

One lap behind Esteban Ocon, and another, and another, and another and in the end Carlos Sainz ended up desperate, harassing his team, making mistakes. He was the most affected by the peloton organized by the Frenchman behind Max Verstappen and Fernando Alonso and, at the same time, the driver who lost the most positions on the grid. From his fourth place at the start to eighth place at the finish line. And that his place was clearly the podium.

From the beginning it was clear that the Spaniard was faster than Ocon, but between the walls of Monte Carlo he could not surpass him. He wanted to do it at the chicane and ended up crashing into him. He wanted to do it in his first stop in the pits and Ferrari missed the moment, too early. And he finally wanted to do it in the rain and suffered the spin that delayed him.

“We could have done better. The first stop surprised me because I had taken great care of the tire and it could have held on, they put me in too soon. Then I went back out after Ocon and got frustrated. I was a victim of frustration, that's why I failed. It is better for me to pass this year because the car is not where we want it to be,” said Sainz.

His result led him to lose a place in the World Championship – he is now sixth behind George Russell – and confirmed the bad year for Ferrari, between its problems with degradation, erroneous strategies and driver failures. In fact, despite the disappointments, Sainz is the team’s best driver, ahead of Charles Leclerc, who at home could only manage sixth.
