Correa's magical recovery in Atlético's perfect week: "I wanted to force myself with pain to help the team"

At Atlético de Madrid they were outraged with Bellingham's entry on Correa in the derby. So much so that to announce the Argentine forward's sprained knee they posted a photo of the English midfielder's hard tackle.. Two to three weeks of sick leave was the recovery time.

Just five days later, the Argentine returned to training with the group. “I had a very bad blow to my knee.. I had a sprain, I couldn't be in the previous game. With the expulsion of Álvaro I wanted to force with a little pain to help the team. Luckily we were able to win,” he said in statements to DAZN.

The Argentine, with a light bandage, returned in time to rescue a lead with Memphis injured for the umpteenth time and Morata sent off after his altercation with Chimy Ávila in the match against Osasuna. “He played with pain, but he had worked well the previous days. We trust what you have. It is very dangerous near the area. You have to be patient like you had. The two goals are from the striker,” Simeone assessed the Argentine's performance.

Instead, he quickly dismissed the question of disbelief at the recovery of the ten: “I'm not interested in what they think,” he said, visibly annoyed by the question.

Another miraculous recovery has been that of Rodrigo de Paul. Not because of the deadlines, which he has not shortened like his compatriot, but because of his tone upon return. The world champion returned as if he had played all of his team's games.

The new-old Saul

De Paul's return is good news for Atlético de Madrid's most punished line: the midfield. Koke, since his return, Llorente and Saúl have been forced to play almost everything. “I'm tired,” confessed the youth player with the number eight on his back who, after a disastrous season in London, is recovering his best version.

“We have had long-term injuries, things that happen to everyone. But everyone is plugged in and every time someone comes out, the game improves,” Saúl also expressed.

Nine out of nine points to forget a tough defeat against Valencia. Now Feyenoord is back in the Champions League and Real Sociedad on Sunday. The two games at the Metropolitano, an impregnable fiefdom for the last 12 games, no matter who plays. “It doesn't matter if we are thirteen or fourteen, we must be strong and that the boys give us a hand. We need to have the entire group,” concluded Simeone. Or, at least, for those who are not there to recover like Correa.
