Double joy for Atlético and Real Sociedad
Atlético complied. Cholo Simeone's team beat an always combative Real Sociedad 2-1 not without a lot of work and thus ensured their presence in the next European Super Cup. Antoine Griezmann, of course, and Nahuel Molina scored the goals for the rojiblancos and Sorloth, when the game ended, scored the goal of honor for a team from San Sebastian that, despite the defeat, also ensured their presence in the next edition of the League of Champions. In this case, thanks to the fact that Villarreal, the team that aspired to snatch this option from him before the start of the penultimate day, ended up kneeling on his visit to Rayo Vallecano.
After the applause and shouts of celebration that the women's Atlético received for their victory in the Copa de la Reina against Real Madrid, the team led by Cholo Simeone took to the pitch, perhaps somewhat in the grip of a Real Sociedad that, at least Initially, he managed to dominate possession and threaten the red and white box. In fact, the first great opportunity to open the scoring came from a Sorloth whose shot ended up not finding the goal when the first seven minutes of the duel had barely been played.
The colchoneros, at least, managed to respond by pulling solidity at the back to avoid bigger bad things and, as the minutes went by, they ended up finding a way to change the tables even one iota. Carrasco had mobility, although the red-and-white midfielder had a hard time finding him with a pass in good condition. Little by little, however, the panorama was changing. And, in this case, it was Atlético who approached Remiro's area with increasing danger. His insistence, in the end, would find a reward in the final stretch of the first half, with Griezmann pulling off a personal trademark action of the house, after a pass from De Paul, which would end up becoming the 1-0 with which It would reach the break, no matter how much Oyarzabal tried to avoid it at sunset with a shot that went to limbo.
The people from San Sebastián, far from being intimidated, took to the pitch at the restart, more than willing to look for an equalizer, despite the fact that in the initial moments of the second half Atlético found two good ways to increase their advantage, well thwarted by Remiro.
Imanol Alguacil’s team sought to press the ball from the back of a red and white team that, for many minutes, had again in Griezmann their most incisive man. However, it was Nahuel Molina who finally made the score 2-0, with a hard shot against which the visiting goalkeeper could do nothing. But not even this new cold shower could dampen the spirits of a Real that, almost at the last minute, managed to score the goal of honor through Sorloth and that, despite the defeat, takes in turn the more than deserved prize of the Champions League.
