Jorge Martín doctorates with a victory in the Moto GP German Grand Prix

Jorge Martín closed a dream weekend, on a Sunday also marked by the withdrawal of a Marc Márquez who fell in the morning warm-up and decided not to run despite having the OK from the doctors. The man from Madrid, for his part, after winning the sprint race on Saturday, won his second victory in a MotoGP Grand Prix after practically receiving his doctorate at the Sachsenring, enduring the open grave harassment of Pecco Bagnaia for many laps and winning only by 64 thousandths in a final of authentic heart attack.

A performance that, in turn, allows him to get closer to the current World Cup leader, snatch second place from Marco Bezzecchi who finished fourth, and even distance himself from the second place in the championship up to now.. The Frenchman Johann Zarco, taking advantage of Brad Binder's spectacular fall, for his part, climbed back to the podium with a third place.

“It's a very exciting time.. After two years fighting to achieve it, it has finally arrived. It was a tough race, Pecco was pushing very hard, I had problems with the rear tire and I had to manage it”, Martín himself confessed after the race, recalling in part what was his first victory in a MotoGP Grand Prix, in Styria, in the year 2021. “This is only the first step, I hope. We get closer and closer. I want to thank my people and my family, who have supported me a lot.. We are prepared for everything,” he added.

His fight with the current World Cup leader was undoubtedly high voltage. He started very strong, despite starting from sixth place on the grid and, as he already did on Saturday, signed a double overtaking to close on the heels of a Bagnaia who he would also end up passing signing a drive full of energy.

The Italian, far from being intimidated, closely marked Martín for many laps and came to take the lead ten laps from the end. Still, he turned the ball back in the same zone three laps later and managed to survive a borderline harassment from the championship leader.. To such an extent that he even touched his rear tire. An action that, just for a moment, led him to relax a pursuit that remained extreme until the checkered flag fell.. «Jorge has shown that he has been very strong. I tried to improve compared to Saturday and I was cutting back, but it was not enough to pass it. After touching his tire, that made recovering mean going too far to the limit,” Bagnaia confessed after the race who, despite everything, made things tremendously difficult for the man from Madrid.

The rest of the Spanish pilots, for their part, did not have such a positive Sunday. Álex Márquez was the second best classified, with a seventh place; Augusto Fernández was eleventh; Raúl Fernández, fifteenth; Aleix Espargaró, sixteenth; and Maverick Viñales was unable to finish the race after suffering an engine failure on his Aprilia.

However, the worst feelings were for Marc Márquez who left Germany without running, suffering from a fissure in his left thumb and a bruise on his right ankle which, despite the fact that the doctors decided that they were not a problem for him to participate in the race, were the straw that broke the camel's back. “It was my own choice.. After five crashes, especially the one this Sunday, I don't feel ready. I have decided that I need calm and that in Assen, more. I don't feel prepared, I have many blows to my body,” said the man from Cervera. With less than a week to go before the Dutch Grand Prix, will this time be enough to heal his wounds? The physics and, above all, also those that accumulate his spirit, with a motorcycle that does not quite live up to what he expected.
