Inter Miami announced this Friday the signing of Luis Suárez, who upon his arrival in the MLS will reunite with his friend Leo Messi after shining together at Barcelona.

The Uruguayan attacker, 36, will also reunite in Florida with two other illustrious former teammates from the Spanish club: Sergio Busquets and Jordi Alba.

Suárez, who recently returned to the Uruguayan team, will thus compete in the US in 2024, the year in which the country of stars and stripes will organize the Copa América.

“Welcome Luis Suárez to the Miami dream,” the pink club wrote on its official X account (formerly Twitter) to welcome the striker after weeks in which his incorporation had been practically taken for granted.

Suárez's contract with his new team will be for one year.

Inter Miami, which has David Beckham among its owners, accompanied the announcement with a photo of four children sitting with their backs to them with numbers 9 (Suárez), 10 (Messi), 18 (Jordi Alba) and 5 (Sergio Busquets) and the following message: “Nothing more beautiful than playing with friends.”

Suárez and Messi, without forgetting the Brazilian Neymar, formed a lethal trident in the Barcelona that was proclaimed European champion in the 2014-2015 season.

“The gunslinger” played for the Blaugrana team for six seasons (2014-2020) in which he scored 197 goals and gave 100 assists as one of Messi's preferred partners.

He also arrives at an MLS in which there are numerous outstanding Uruguayan players such as Diego Rossi (from the current champion Columbus Crew), Facundo Torres (Orlando City), César Araujo (Orlando City), Martín Cáceres (LA Galaxy), Diego Fagúndez (LA Galaxy ), Gastón Brugman (LA Galaxy), Santiago Rodríguez (New York City) or Cristian Olivera (Los Angeles FC).

Suárez played last season for the Brazilian Gremio, where he scored 29 goals in 54 games.

Messi arrived at Inter Miami this summer and, with the help of fellow newcomers Busquets and Alba, won the first title in history for the Florida team, the 'Leagues Cup'.

However, an injury caused him to miss several MLS regular season games and Inter Miami was left out of the playoff for the MLS Cup.

Inter Miami will star in the opening match of the 2024 MLS season with a home match against Real Salt Lake on February 21.
