Real Madrid has made Marco Asensio's departure from the club official this Saturday with a statement published just a few minutes after the player announced his goodbye on social media.
“Real Madrid would like to express its gratitude and affection for Marco Asensio, a player who has defended our shield and our shirt for seven seasons.. He arrived at Real Madrid when he was only 20 years old and has managed to enter the history of our club as part of a team that has starred in one of our most successful periods”, reads the statement released by the team.
“Marco Asensio has won 17 titles at Real Madrid: 3 European Cups, 4 Club World Cups, 3 European Super Cups, 3 Leagues, 1 Copa del Rey and 3 Spanish Super Cups. We madridistas will never forget his career and his exemplary behavior during all this time. Real Madrid is and will always be his home, and he wishes him and all his family the best of luck in this new stage,” he said.
For his part, the player has published a video on his social networks where he has made official his decision not to accept the renewal proposal of the white club and close a seven-year stage to start another.
“Dear Real Madrid fans, I address you with a lump in my throat and a heart full of mixed feelings,” Asensio said on his social networks.. “I want to express my deepest gratitude to Real Madrid.”
His departure opens the door for Kubo and Brahim
His representative, Jorge Mendes, and the club's general manager, José Ángel Sánchez, had been in talks since December. Madrid had presented him with an offer that improved his current contract, but relegated him to a substitute role with which the Spaniard, at 27, was not entirely satisfied. Asensio had received proposals from the Premier League and PSG, and will assess his options in the coming weeks.
His departure opens the door for Kubo and Brahim, who had to leave the Bernabéu in recent years because they could not find a place, but whom Real Madrid has kept on the radar.
