Sandra Gómez: "Peter Lim will no longer be able to sell Mestalla without finishing the new stadium"

Sandra Gómez combines her status as a Valencian supporter with the fact that, as Socialist deputy mayor, having been the scourge of Peter Lim. Facing Valencia would have been crazy a few years ago, but today she has made fans know her for the firmness with which she has spoken out before the club in what she considers the rights of the city: to see the stadium finished and enforce the largest shareholder with their commitments.

Was that urban operation designed in 2005 a hit? Without a doubt. And it would be impossible to repeat now in some city in Spain without it being a scandal. The public endowment was eliminated from a neighborhood to give Valencia land at a ridiculous price and in exchange for scraps in other neighborhoods. It was a PP scam on the city that the PSOE denounced. In addition, they reclassified Mestalla. Later, the ATE was invented to be able to add more tertiary and hotel meters to residential land, and thus make a double hit. In addition, it was not guaranteed that the benefits from the sale of that land would be invested in the new stadium. Hence his efforts to have the Valencian government annul that ATE and Valencia sued him in court yesterday… It is incredible that the same week in which the entire Valencian society has come out to show its face for the image of the club, Peter Lim denounces the institutions for protecting the city. Valencia did not comply with its commitments even prior to the ATE and now what we have done is present an agreement and some urban planning documents that guarantee that Lim can no longer sell the land in Mestalla and the tertiary of the new stadium, take the money to Singapore and not finish the field and the sports center. Without a stadium or sports center, he will not have his 'hit'. With another owner, would the problem be unblocked? I am going to defend the interest of the city, whoever is the largest shareholder. The problem that Peter Lim has today is that they have not done anything on their part to be credible for the public administration. In fact, she has filed a lawsuit against us. They have accused her of using her position with Valencia to campaign… I assure you that for some time I have experienced more harassment than anything else. What's happening now is that people are fed up with broken promises. I am clear that I am here to defend the interest of the city. Other parties have been changing or putting themselves in profile. This was pointed out by the audios of the former president, Anil Murthy, where he listened to how he said that the PP and Compromís secretly supported them. The PP has an uncomfortable position: it was the one who orchestrated this operation and its candidate was the Minister of Sports when the sale to Peter Lim was made. He has never had a firm position with Valencia. I have also heard senior officials from Compromís defend Meriton's interests. If there is a political change, do you think that firmness will remain? I think the top shareholder is waiting to see if they find a more comfortable interlocutor. They have no interest in moving forward with the agreement. How much longer can the works be kept at a standstill, I would like to see them finished and I have done everything I can to make it happen. But the conditions of the new agreement are set by the Valencia City Council, not Meriton. We are going to be very firm on this. And if Lim is not interested, let him sell and leave. The stadium cannot stay like this indefinitely and, if they are not interested, we are open to any option, including changing the promoter.
