Spain and Brazil will play a friendly against racism in March 2024
The Royal Spanish Football Federation and the Brazilian Football Confederation have announced on Monday that the teams of both countries will play a friendly in March 2024 to reinforce the commitment of both entities against violence in football.
The president of the Federation, Luis Rubiales, already met a few days ago at the Ciudad del Fútbol de Las Rozas with Orlando Leite, Brazil's ambassador to Spain, and has maintained frequent contacts with Ednaldo Rodrigues, head of the CBF. Both leaders have considered that it was a wonderful opportunity to strengthen football ties and their social commitments.
The match will be played on Spanish soil, under the motto “One skin”, and both countries expect it to be “a great football party between two of the most powerful teams on the international scene”. Soon, both presidents will offer more details about the celebration of the match.
In the hypothetical case that the National Team had official commitments on the scheduled date, a new space would be sought in the calendar for the celebration of this meeting.
It will be the tenth match between the two national teams, who have not met since the 2013 Confederations Cup final. Of the nine previous duels, Spain won two and drew another two, with eight goals for and 14 against.
campaign against racism
The president of the RFEF was the one who led the campaign “Racists, out of football”, after what happened with Vinicius in Mestalla, on May 21. This initiative aims to eradicate racist and xenophobic attitudes from football fields, making the fans aware that insults or discriminatory attitudes are not tolerable under any circumstances.
