The SEPE requires having contributed six years of unemployment to be able to collect the subsidy for those over 52 years of age
Those over 52 years of age, as stated by the Public State Employment Service (SEPE), are entitled to an unemployment subsidy for those over 52 years of age in case they have exhausted the contributory benefit. To opt for it, it is necessary to be registered as a job seeker and sign the activity commitment that obliges you to actively seek employment.
To access it, the SEPE includes on its website a series of requirements to collect this benefit, the amount of which is 80% of the IPREM (about 480 euros per month) and the duration, if the requirements are met, is until the age required to be entitled to the Social Security contributory pension is reached.
Among the requirements, there are two that are essential and that are required to access the payment of this subsidy for people over 52 years of age: these also correspond to the requirements “to access any type of contributory pension”, according to the SEPE: “to have contributed for retirement for 15 years, two of which must be within the last 15 – and to have contributed for unemployment for a minimum of 6 years throughout their working life”.
Therefore, to access this subsidy, in addition to other requirements, it is essential to have previously been contributing for unemployment for 6 years (that is, unemployed).
Requirements for the subsidy for people over 52 years of age
- be unemployed
- Age 52 or older

- Be registered as a jobseeker for one month from the end of the unemployment benefit
- Sign the activity agreement
- Rise of income above 75% of the SMI
- Proof of having contributed for retirement for a minimum of 15 years
- Have contributed unemployment for a minimum of 6 years.
All the general and specific conditions are collected on the SEPE website.
