Accidental deaths of bathers on the Catalan coast continue to increase. The Civil Guard is investigating the discovery of the body of a man who appeared floating early this Wednesday morning off the beach of Gavà. As reported by the City Council of this town near Barcelona, it would be a 48-year-old resident of Cornellà de Llobregat whose body was found by two girls who were doing paddle surfing.

Then they moved him to the sand and called the emergency services who went to the beach. However, the death of the man could only be certified. At the moment, the Civil Guard is waiting to hear the medical report to find out the causes of death, although everything indicates that it would be a new fatal drowning.

The beach was attended by members of the local police of Gavà, Mossos d'Esquadra and Guardia Civil. According to the Consistory, the identification of the victim was possible after locating his personal belongings in the sand, which is why he could have drowned first thing in the morning after going swimming.

On the other hand, last Saturday a minor under 9 years of age and a foreign nationality was admitted to the Trueta Hospital in Girona in critical condition after almost drowning on La Coma beach, which has no lifeguard service, in Castelló d'Empúries. The transfer of the minor was made with a medicalized helicopter. However, the minor did not recover and died this Tuesday, according to Civil Protection.

With these two deaths, 19 people have died on the Catalan coast since the bathing season began on June 15.
