A 54-year-old man dies when two vehicles collide head-on in Bergara

A 54-year-old driver has died in a traffic accident registered this Thursday afternoon on the GI-627 highway, as it passes through the Gipuzkoan town of Bergara. Two cars have been involved in the fatal accident that have collided head-on.

As reported by the Basque Department of Security, the crash took place around 6:10 p.m. today on the GI-627 road, as it passes through Bergara. For reasons that the Ertzaintza is investigating, two passenger cars, an Opel Astra and a Ford Focus that were driving on the aforementioned road, have been involved in a frontal collision.

The emergency services displaced to the place have helped the two drivers. Despite the resuscitation maneuvers carried out by the toilets, the driver of the first vehicle, a 54-year-old man, had injuries incompatible with life and has died. The physician who went to the scene has certified the death of the injured person.

The second driver has been evacuated to the hospital with injuries of reserved prognosis. The road remains closed at eight in the evening in both directions and the Ertzaintza diverts traffic through the Osintxu neighborhood to speed up traffic.

The Ertzaintza has launched the corresponding investigation in order to clarify the circumstances of the tragic accident.
