The Minister of the Presidency, Interior, Social Dialogue and Administrative Simplification, Antonio Sanz, has demanded this Friday from the central Executive “less electoral announcements and more facts” after approving, in the Extraordinary Council of Ministers, a series of measures to face the drought, that they arrive “late and badly”, in addition to being, in his opinion, “insufficient”.
Asked about it by journalists after chairing the meeting of the Infoca Plan Advisory Committee, Sanz has asked for “a calendar” so that these measures are “credible” because he sees “lack of rigor and seriousness”, along with calling it electoral when announcing them the first day of the campaign for the local elections on May 28.
“Drought is not a problem now. It seems that in the electoral campaign someone has discovered that the drought is a problem”, he criticized to highlight that, in the face of this attitude, “the Junta de Andalucía has been asking the Government of Spain for actions to avoid the drought for four years” and, since 2019 , has carried out 50 hydraulic works under the State's jurisdiction and has invested 1,500 million between 2019 and 2022.
“Now by 2023 we have 400 million and three drought decrees”, he stressed to continue reminding that the Board has carried out “300 purification and supply works in 215 municipalities and has invested 200 million in irrigation modernization, especially to prevent water leaks “.
Thus, it has considered that it is “a bit suspicious and, above all, doubtful” that the national government has “a real will” to face the situation of drought, also taking into account that these measures “will not arrive in time” to face the current situation of lack of water.
Sanz has detailed that the Government of Spain has 33 actions declared of General Interest, that is, with exclusive competence of the State, but, as he has pointed out, “it has not done any”. In line with this, he has celebrated that, “after all the insults and threats to Andalusia”, the action of the Board has served “to begin to put the batteries”.
