Aragonès remodels its Government after the ERC crash in the municipal elections
Pere Aragonès remodels the Government after the ERC crash in the municipal elections, in which he lost more than 300,000 votes compared to 2019, when he was the most voted force in Catalonia. The President of the Generalitat has dispensed with Josep Gonzàlez-Cambray as Minister of Education and Juli Fernández as Head of Territory. Also leaving the Cabinet is the person in charge of Climate Action and Food, Teresa Jordà, who has been chosen by the party to work in tandem with Gabriel Rufián on the general list.
Jordà's election -which has served as a pretext to promote the government crisis- came after ERC voices questioned Rufián for the first time as a candidate for Congress. The critical sector of the party was used harshly last week against the party leadership for the results in the local elections.
Given this fact, Oriol Junqueras decided to add Jordà to the candidacy of the generals as Rufián's number two, given his significant degree of knowledge outside the metropolitan area of Barcelona due to the fluid contact with the rural areas of Catalonia that the performance of his work implied. within the Government. He also rearmed the Executive with two other clearly political profiles.
Cambray's departure is explained because he was the counselor who had suffered the most wear and tear. His work to circumvent the sentence of 25% Spanish was highly valued by Aragonès, but the head of Education was directly confronted with the educational community, on which he had imposed decisions such as the change in the school calendar, which led him to suffer forceful days of strike.
In her place is a historic ERC member, Anna Simó, who joined the Catalan Executive after being sentenced on May 31 to four months of disqualification as a member of the Parliamentary Bureau for processing the disconnection laws. Although those four months have not elapsed since that ruling, the sentence is not final and also the trial had to be repeated, by indication of the Supreme Court, so it is possible that the court considers the sentence served, taking into account that the time of disqualification has been comfortably exceeded since there was the first ruling, in 2020, in which he had been sentenced to a greater sentence.
For these events, she was sentenced, along with the other members of the Board, to four months of disqualification, which was imposed by the Superior Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) on May 31.
The second dismissed, Fernàndez, has only lasted eight months in a Government in which he never fit in. To decide on his departure, he weighed the importance that Aragonès gives to the conflict with the State due to the inoperability of the Cercanías railway network. To pilot this struggle with the Government, the president has chosen another historic ERC, such as Ester Capella, who was Justice Counselor in Quim Torra's Executive and who, already with Aragonès as president, served as a Government delegate in Madrid.
David Mascort will enter Climate Action, who until now was Jordà's right hand in the ministry. A simple promotion.
It is the second reorganization of Government that Aragonès undertakes in the mandate. The first took place eight months ago when Junts decided to leave the Executive after the dismissal of Vice President Jordi Puigneró for not having informed him that his party planned to announce a matter of confidence taking advantage of the General Policy debate in Parliament, the equivalent of the State of the nation.
