Asturias faces the night with 13 active fires and 15 under review

SPAIN

Asturias faces the night with thirteen active fires, although two already controlled and three without danger, and another fifteen outbreaks under review after a day in which the most intense and worrying fire was declared in the municipality of Las Regueras, where They have seen houses and blocks in four towns threatened.

According to the latest update from the Principality's Emergency Service, at nine o'clock at night this fire was still active in Soto, in Las Regueras, which for hours has threatened to reach some houses in the towns of Soto, Bolgues and Pereda, as well as Ablanosa, located in the neighboring municipality of Candamo,

In principle, no building has been affected by this fire which, according to the Principality's Presidency Councilor, Rita Camblor, appears to be intentional, since it is an area of pine trees with well-managed mountains that had not burned until now never.

Apparently, the fire started on the same hillside at three points distant from each other and almost simultaneously, according to some residents of the area, who took out tanks of water with their tractors to try to stop the flames, whose smoke could be seen from Oviedo.

They were later joined by means of the BRIF from Tabuyo (León) together with firefighters from the central park of La Morgal and Pravia, as well as personnel from a forestry company and air resources, including several seaplanes.

In addition to this, there are three active fires in Valdés, the municipality most affected by the previous wave of fires, as was confirmed today by the Minister of the Presidency, Félix Bolaños, who visited several areas burned by fire.

Four more fires remained active at nine o'clock at night in Cangas de Onís, Cangas del Narcea, Navia and Teverga, in addition to another three “active without danger” in Cabrales, Grado and Ribadesella, and two controlled in Parres.

Under review by the forest nursery there were another 15 outbreaks distributed by the councils of Valdés (6), Piloña (2), Tineo (3), Teverga, Laviana, Llanes and Cangas de Onís.

Despite these fires, the Minister of the Presidency has indicated that this episode of fires is less worrisome than the one that took place between March 23 and the first week of April, since now there is no wind and that causes the fire to advance very slowly.

However, Asturias maintains alert level 2 of the Principality's Fire Protection Plan (INFOPA) activated, which is launched when the fire can seriously affect the population and the help of extraordinary means is necessary.

In fact, throughout the day the Principality's own extinguishing services have been reinforced with the Forest Fire Reinforcement Brigades (BRIF) of Tineo, Cantabria and León, although only the latter's means were operational at nightfall.

The Principality had placed INFOPA in phase zero last Sunday, due to weather conditions that helped put an end to the wave of fires that the community had been experiencing since March 23 and which, according to initial estimates, could have burned some 20,000 hectares. .

With temperatures that have been around or exceeded 25 degrees in many parts of the community, and that will remain at a similar level this Sunday, the risk of forest fires being declared in Asturias is “extreme” in 30 councils in the southwest, mountains, Picos de Europa and part of the eastern coast, while it will remain “very high” in another 41 municipalities of the Principality of Asturias.

The seven councils of the westernmost end of the Principality will be the only ones that will remain at “high” risk, according to the indicator that the General Directorate of Rural and Forest Infrastructures prepares daily.

The risk will be reduced compared to this Saturday, a day in which the risk is extreme in 51 municipalities, “very high” in another 20 and “high” in the seven in the far west.
