Catalá insists on his intention to govern Valencia only with PP councilors and "specific agreements"

SPAIN

“I am going to take office and prepare a decree delegating powers urgently. From there, we will begin to work with specific agreements. This is what I'm going to do”. María José Catalá clings to the legal formula that allows her to avoid a pact with Vox, which can be uncomfortable with the general elections just around the corner.

For this reason, next Saturday she will become mayoress of Valencia without him and will design her first government team, delegating only her 12 colleagues on the PP list and without any of the four councilors from Abascal's party.. At least that is the intention that he continues to manifest with the same intensity that he did in the campaign.

Catalá can distribute the areas of government, which are the responsibility of the Mayor's Office and delegates them, among the councilors of the PP and also redesign them when it deems appropriate, so that it can open the government to Vox if it is needed later to carry out the municipal budget , the most difficult obstacle that will be found on the way.

The next mayor knows that her first measures will go ahead. “It is very difficult to say no,” he clarified after stating that he plans to immediately execute a shock cleaning plan throughout the city and increase the number of police officers, a process that he knows is “complex.”. To this is added the work that has already begun to design the new tax ordinances that in 2024 will mean a tax cut of 67.8 million euros, “20% of the IBI, a bonus of 95% in the municipal capital gains for inheritances and, above all, for family business transfer issues, and also a reduction in the rest of the taxes”.

For the Catalá team, these are measures for which Vox cannot deny support and, therefore, they will go ahead. In addition, time is running in your favor because, for example, the tax cut will not be effective until next year.

The Marina and the Green Capital

With the inauguration of next Saturday on the horizon, the next mayor held a meeting to transfer power with the current acting mayor, Joan Ribó, where they addressed issues that she considers “basic lines” for the city as the Green Capital European or Navy.

“I have asked the mayor for a report on the current state of these efforts, which are very important, and to give me a small report,” said Catalá, who also requested that the outgoing Compromís team hold the last government meeting and the PSOE “are limited to ordinary procedural issues without exceeding the regulations on powers during the period of the acting government.”

For his part, Joan Ribó was willing to facilitate the change and assured that he had given orders to all the councilors of Compromís to facilitate it.. “I say this with a bit of nostalgia, I would have liked to find myself in a similar situation eight years ago and I think it is important to know all the data from the previous government,” said Ribó, who also insisted that the councilors of his group are “strictly adjusting the regulations” on acting governments and they know that they cannot “make proposals that mortgage the future direction of the City Council.”

The government of María José Catalá will start with two demonstrations on issues that as mayor will have on the table. The first is the demonstration of the Ciutat-Port Commission against the expansion of the Port of Valencia. “I could not be more clear and I believe all these issues are marked by this proximity to an election,” explained the popular.

The second is the concentration called by the Valencia fans on Saturday the 17th to ask the institutions to get involved in the departure of Peter Lim from the club. “You are going to see me speak little and work a lot with the Valencia issue and I hope to be very effective with this issue,” he settled.
