- The independence movement is preparing for a Diada of low voltage and moderate participation
- Celebration of the day in Barcelona: schedule, route of the demonstration and events
Like every September 11, Catalonia celebrates its official holiday, the Diada. This date commemorates a crucial event in the War of the Spanish Succession: the fall of Barcelona in 1714 to the Bourbon troops, which later led to King Philip V abolishing Catalan institutions.. Four large columns – 'Freedom', 'Language and culture', 'Country' and 'Sovereignty' – will converge in the Plaza de España, as part of a demonstration called by the ANC (Catalan National Assembly). With the main motto “Via Fora!”, which refers to an ancient Catalan medieval cry of alarm with which the population was called to defend themselves against a threat, each of the four columns will start from different places in Barcelona.
