ERC and Bildu will go in coalition in the Senate elections

SPAIN

ERC and Bildu delve into the close relationship that already linked them. If until now the Catalan and Basque independentistas maintained a collaboration agreement that led them to act as a single voice in Congress and in the Senate, now they will run in coalition in the elections to the Upper House under the name “Lefts for independence ».

“Thus, we ratify the ties not only between our parties, but between our nations with the aim of advancing towards the future in freedom that we want for our countries,” the two separatist formations have stated in a joint statement.

ERC and Bildu underline that their alliance in the last four years -for which they shared a group in the Senate- has allowed them to advance “on the path of national construction” and in “the resolution of the Catalan and Basque conflicts with the Spanish State », by virtue of the multiple agreements reached with the PSOE government, of which they have been preferred partners.

«We want to find as many allies as possible to defend Catalonia. And Bildu is the best possible ally because they also defend the best for the people of Euskadi”, stated the president of the Republicans, Oriol Junqueras, who has ignored the latest controversies related to the inclusion of ETA members in the municipal candidacies of the party he presides over. Arnaldo Otegi.

This agreement is forged, while ERC has not yet managed to reach an agreement with the rest of the pro-independence forces for the next general elections. The “common front” that Pere Aragonès talked about last week still hasn't crystallized. Junts proposes to run on the same list, but Junqueras has ratified this morning that they are only open to “programmatic agreements”, which may also include the CUP and the commons, the latter as a “sovereignist” although not “independence” force.
