Feijóo places Sémper and Álvarez de Toledo on the PP's Madrid list for the 23-J elections

SPAIN

The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, has communicated today to the vice-secretary of Culture of his party, Borja Sémper (former president of the PP of Guipúzcoa) and the deputy Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo (parliamentarian for Barcelona) “his willingness that both accompany him “on the Madrid list for the Congress of Deputies in the next general elections, according to sources in Genoa.

The inclusion of Sémper in the list for Madrid was discounted in the PP, but not that of Cayetana Álvarez de Toledo. The former parliamentary spokesperson for the popular party leaves number 1 on the list vacant for the province of Barcelona. For that position, the popular pools point to Alejandro Fernández, president of the party in Catalonia.

From Genoa they do not detail in which positions Sémper and Álvarez de Toledo will be located, although they will be starting. The great unknown that Feijóo keeps under lock and key is who will be his number two. The national leaders consulted believe that the party's general secretary, Cuca Gamarra, will present herself for La Rioja, but they do not rule out that it ends up being Feijóo's ticket for Madrid.

In the last National Board of Directors of the PP, Feijóo informed the barons of the party that he would choose at least the heads of the list for each province and would also prepare the ballot that will accompany him in Madrid. Since he had given the territorial organizations a free hand to draw up the regional and local lists, the barons unanimously accepted.

Of course, none of those consulted today have the remotest idea of who are those chosen by Feijóo. In the environment of the leader of the main opposition party, they pride themselves on the fact that he has always been able to keep his appointments secret until the moment in which he has seen fit to announce them.. The only exception has been the recent case of Luis Garicano, whose signing by the PP foundation was announced earlier than Genoa anticipated.
