Justice officials announce an indefinite strike starting May 22

SPAIN

The strike committee of the officials of the administration of Justice has called this Wednesday an indefinite strike starting next May 22 if the Government “does not put an economic proposal on the table”, a stoppage that would be added to the one already announced by judges and prosecutors from next Tuesday, the 16th.

The Ministries of Justice and Finance and Public Function “have 10 days to avoid absolute collapse in the administration of Justice,” warned Javier Jordán, head of Justice for CSIF, the majority union in this sector, during a rally in front of the headquarters of the department directed by Pilar Llop.

The CSIF, STAJ, CCOO and UGT unions, which up to now have promoted mobilizations, partial stoppages and specific 24-hour strikes, thus intensify their pressure on the Government to make them offer a remuneration “as it has done with the lawyers (of the administration of Justice) and how it is doing with judges and prosecutors”.

Demonstration on May 25

Every day of unemployment by officials means around five million procedural actions and some 20,000 suspended trials, estimate the unions, which accuse the administration of the stoppage.

“The only person responsible is the Government of Spain, which refuses to negotiate and put an economic proposal on the table,” Jordán reproached.

In a protest before the Ministry of Justice, in which around a hundred workers have participated, the CSIF spokesperson has also announced a “big demonstration” on May 25, which will tour the center of Madrid from Justice, in the calle San Bernardo, to the headquarters of the Public Function, in Santa Engracia.

“The monitoring data of the strike grows every day, today the administration of Justice is again paralyzed, (…) the lawyers are verifying that now Justice is on strike and not before,” Jordán pointed out during a new 24-hour strike that will be repeated on May 11, 16, 17 and 18 and will become indefinite on the 22nd.

350 and 430 euros more per month

The officials, who are demanding a salary increase of between 350 and 430 euros gross per month and the paralysis of the Organic Law of Organizational Efficiency, assure that they will not stop their protest until the Government makes them an economic proposal like the one agreed with the lawyers , of up to 450 euros, or the one that they are negotiating with judges and prosecutors.

The latter meet this afternoon at the remuneration table with representatives of Justice and the Civil Service to continue the dialogue, after receiving a proposal from the Government of more than 45 million euros to improve their salaries.
