The Minister of Housing, Transport and Infrastructure, Jorge Rodrigo, explained that the Community of Madrid has decided to launch this renovation of the Madrid Metro during the summer months because there is less influx of users. He has ensured that these “improvements that are essential to continue guaranteeing the standards of quality, speed and safety of our suburban”.

Specifically, the central section of Line 9, which runs from the stations of Núñez de Balboa, Avenida de América, Cruz del Rayo and Concha Espina, will be closed.. To cover the absence of service and the route between the Príncipe de Vergara and Colombia stops, the regional government is going to launch a special free bus service.

It has also announced the start date and duration of the works. Line 9 will remain closed from August 5 until early September. In this case, the improvement works will last less than those of Line 1, which will be interrupted until October.

The asbestos removal plan for the Madrid underground network, which began in 2018 and is expected to end in 2028, has an investment of 170 million euros, of which more than 62 million have already been committed. Since its start, more than a hundred contracts have been put out to tender to eliminate this element of trains and facilities.
