Provisional freedom for the Totana Physical Education teacher arrested for sexually assaulting a dozen female students
The physical education teacher at the Prado Mayor secondary school, in Totana (Murcia), arrested this Monday as the alleged perpetrator of sexual assaults on several students, has been provisionally released by order of the local duty judge after declaring this Tuesday, with the obligation to appear in court every 15 days and report changes of address.
The head of the Court of first instance and instruction number 1 also prohibits him from approaching less than 300 meters from the minors and from communicating directly or indirectly with them while the case is being processed.
The arrest of Juan Ignacio BC, the Physical Education teacher accused of sexually assaulting several students at the Institute, was made possible by a complaint from a local police guardian agent after hearing the story of some of the victims.
As reported by the mayor of Totana, Pedro José Sánchez, the guardian agent -in a program of the city council and the Local Police- meets every week and in non-school afternoon hours with students in the sociocultural center “La Cárcel” to talk of their school coexistence problems or their family situation, among other aspects.
In one of those talks, one of the victims told the police officer that she had been sexually assaulted by her Physical Education teacher, and as a result, other minors reported similar events, for which the agent transferred the facts to the Civil Guard.
The detainee, 46 years old and with no criminal record, was arrested on Monday morning, after the investigation carried out by the Benemérita.
Sources close to the investigation have indicated that the events reported occurred between 2018 and 2023.
According to sources from the educational center, Juan Ignacio BC. He has been practically the entire course off work and joined the institute a couple of weeks before Easter, where he is head of the Physical Education department and where he has worked for more than five years.
For its part, the Murcia Ministry of Education has indicated that “it has no prior record of complaints or complaints, neither from the center nor from the educational community”, and that, after the communication from the institute of the teacher's arrest, the Educational Inspection has launched an investigation.
