Puig rejects Mazón's offer of "transversal government" and leads him to agree with Vox the Table of the Cortes
“We already know how the story ends. No hago spoiler”. The story is the negotiation of the next Valencian autonomous government, which will be chaired by the popular Carlos Mazón. And the end is who will agree with to achieve the absolute majority with which to leave the Valencian Courts invested as president of the Generalitat. In the PSOE they are clear: it will be with Vox, as Arcadi España, one of the members of the Valencian delegation that has met with Mazón, has underlined this Thursday.. Therefore, in history no chapter would fit with the abstention of the Valencian socialists.
It is what Mazón himself had requested from Ximo Puig's PSOE. The still acting president of the Generalitat has stood him up in this first meeting that the PP has raised as part of its round of contacts with all the parties to try to form a government. A “transversal and unidentified with blocks” executive, highlighted the PP Deputy Secretary of Organization, Juan Francisco Pérez Llorca, who has consequently regretted the “resounding no” of the Socialists.
In this sense, Miguel Barrachina, who has served as campaign manager for the PP, has revealed that Mazón has put on the table a political agreement based on the “35 points of agreement” between both parties. Both PP and PSOE, he has insisted, contemplate in their programs from the defense of an improvement in regional financing to that of the Tajo-Segura transfer. In other words, 35 songs that “would unite the PP and PSOE”.
However, for the PSOE there is no such point of agreement. “We will talk about social advances, but there are differences and opposing positions,” Spain has qualified, which has insisted that “the PSOE is the alternative”. What's more, “an abstention would not be understood by anyone”.
And this is where the socialists cling to Vox. If Pedro Sánchez was already looking for the electoral advance to make the possible negotiations of PP and Vox coincide with the campaign, what Puig's party wants now is that the popular ones take a picture as soon as possible. In the calendar there is a key date, which is none other than June 26, the day of the constitution of the Cortes.
It will be then when the Table of the Cortes is also conformed, for which the PP has also brought a proposal in agreement with the PSOE. Again, a “resounding no” from the socialists who, in addition, have slipped that they could not cede to Compromís any of the members that in principle would touch them.
It must be taken into account that, on paper, of the five members of the Bureau, three would be for the PP as the majority party and another two for the PSOE, the second parliamentary group by number of seats. The socialist María José Salvador has made it clear that the composition of the Table responds to a “government agreement”. And this means two things for socialists.
The first, which in 2015 and 2019 was agreed with the Botanic partners but now nothing links PSOE and Compromís. The second, that the PP will have to deal with Vox for the Table if it also wants to tie its votes for the investiture.
In fact, to avoid this scenario that will arrive yes or yes before 23-J -the date of the investiture is still in the air-, what the PP had proposed to the PSOE is that the four parties with representation in the Cortes have representation. That is, PP and PSOE but also Compromís and Vox. In this way, Vox would be admitted without having to negotiate directly with Carlos Flores' party.
But the popular ones have again banged their heads against the wall of the socialists. “We ask for transparency and that they explain their agreement [with Vox] as soon as possible,” Spain has stated. So, for the moment, the PP does not consider unilaterally giving entry into the Bureau to Vox and Compromís. “We were looking for a global agreement where we all give in,” explained Llorca, who has argued that the opposite would mean not respecting the parliamentary arithmetic coming out of the polls.
The round of talks will continue next week with Compromís and Vox, which has already made it clear that it wants to enter the future government of the Generalitat. Carlos Mazón and Carlos Flores will see each other’s faces for the first time next Tuesday the 13th.
