Sánchez praises Biden in the White House and extols relations between Spain and the US: "We are allies"

The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, underlined this Friday at the White House before the President of the United States, Joe Biden, the “excellent” bilateral relationship that the two countries maintain: “We are allies, friends,” he stressed. In addition, he has praised the American leader: “The world needs a president committed to good fights, like you,” he pointed out.

The Spanish president also highlighted the “common values” that unite Spain and the United States at the beginning of his meeting with the US president in the Oval Office. In addition, both have shown their harmony in green transition policies and have advanced bilateral agreements on gender equality.

At the beginning of the meeting, Biden thanked Sánchez for his cooperation and leadership with Ukraine, in the context of the invasion of Russia. He has also indicated that both countries face the challenge of migration and has assured that they will work with Spain during the EU Presidency that begins in July.

The President of the United States also thanked Sánchez for the agreement to increase the number of destroyers at the Rota military base from 4 to 6, signed this week by the Ministry of Defense.

The meeting between the two leaders was scheduled to review the different aspects of the relations, see the progress that has been made in recent months in certain sections and how to continue to strengthen collaboration in others for the future.

Previously, Biden had welcomed Sánchez through his Twitter account.. The US leader described Sánchez as a “partner and ally” in NATO, and has assured that he hopes to “deepen the historical ties” that both countries maintain.

Upon his arrival in the United States, the President of the Government presented the Grand Cross of Isabel la Católica to the historic leader of the Democratic Party Nancy Pelosi, of whom he highlighted her “crucial” work in defending the transatlantic relations that today are ” stronger than ever”, as he stated.
