Sánchez promotes Montero and places Bolaños in Justice as a fire extinguisher for the Judiciary

Pedro Sánchez already has the Government ready and will officially announce it throughout this morning. The new Executive will have four vice-presidencies, one more than currently. María Jesús Montero will also be vice president, along with Nadia Calviño, Yolanda Díaz and Teresa Ribera. The former president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, will be the new Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory; the former mayor of Barcelona, Jordi Hereu, will have the Industry portfolio; the also former mayor of Valladolid, Óscar Puente, of Transportation; Isabel Rodríguez, from Housing, and Félix Bolaños, from Justice, in addition to the Presidency.

Other names of the conference are that of Elma Saiz, spokesperson for the PSN in the Pamplona city council and Minister of Economy in the Government of Navarra, whom Sánchez places as the new Minister of Social Security, replacing José Luis Escrivá, who will lead a new Ministry of Digital Transformation. Pilar Alegría, who becomes the new face of the Government since she is the replacement of Isabel Rodríguez at the head of the spokesperson, although she retains Education and incorporates Sports. And Ana Redondo, Puente's number two in the Valladolid City Council, and who will be the Minister of Equality. An appointment with which Sánchez intends to reconcile with the feminist movement, from which he had distanced himself during the controversial stage of Irene Montero.. For the PSOE it was a priority to recover this Ministry.

Montero will continue to head the Ministry of Finance, but is promoted to fourth vice president, a decision in line with the increasing weight that she has acquired in the Government and in the party.. She is one of the most important people in the president's core, along with Félix Bolaños, and is the number two of the PSOE as deputy general secretary.. Bolaños also strengthens. It retains the Ministry of the Presidency, but it also adds Justice, in full struggle with the Judiciary over the amnesty law. This new mission places him as the great fire extinguisher of the Sánchez team, to whom he entrusts the solution of the most delicate issues. The concessions to the independentists have caused an institutional clash with Justice. Contrary to what had initially been considered, the president has not reduced the giant structure of the coalition Executive and remains with 22 Ministries, five of them for Sumar.

The mystery of Calviño, pending it being known in the coming days that she is the new president of the European Investment Bank (EIB), is resolved by leaving her in the Government for now. He would leave his position when he has to join the EIB. A designation that Moncloa considers safe, after the public support of Germany and the endorsement that France grants privately.. With her departure, the Cabinet would once again have three vice presidencies and the forecast is that Montero will be the first vice president and the new head of Economy will only be a minister.. The name that was most popular, even in the financial sector, was that of Escrivá. By leaving him alone in charge of the Ministry of Digital Transformation, this possibility persists.

The incorporation of Ángel Víctor Torres, who left the presidency on May 28, after an agreement between the Canarian Coalition and the PP, was one of those that had been signed up. But his confirmation means that he will not remain there as head of the opposition, waiting to return to the regional Executive, as he had initially said.. This is one of the additions to the Government of those affected by the poor results of the PSOE on March 28.. Torres will manage, in addition to Territorial Policy, the powers of Democratic Memory, which until now were in the hands of Félix Bolaños in the Presidency..

Industry for the PSC

The new Minister of Industry will be Jordi Hereu, mayor of Barcelona between 2006 and 2011. The PSC thus takes over this very relevant area, in a legislature, furthermore, in which Catalonia is at the center of the political debate.. Although traditionally the Catalan socialists have always had a quota, they are recovering a fundamental area for the Catalan economy and one that could be profitable for them in the face of the next elections in Catalonia..

Another surprise is that Óscar Puente, former mayor of Valladolid, will be Minister of Transportation, replacing Raquel Jiménez. Very close to Sánchez, since he responded to Alberto Núñez Feijóo in the debate of his investiture, in the PSOE they counted on him having a relevant role, but without being able to know if it would be in the Government.. Isabel Rodríguez will also continue to be part of the Executive, but with Territorial Policy in the hands of the former Canary Islands president, the Castilian politician from La Mancha will assume the responsibilities of Housing and Urban Agenda. Access to housing, Sánchez had announced, will be one of the axes of the new legislature, so it will have its own portfolio.

In the absence of Sánchez giving the final list, it seems that José Manuel Albares (Exterior), Fernando Grande-Marlaska (Interior), Margarita Robles (Defense), Luis Planas (Agriculture) and Diana Morant (Science and Technology) remain in their positions.. In the PSOE they assumed that the president would promote a major renovation at this stage so that the Government, in a particularly complicated legislature, would be “more competitive”. But party sources assure that in recent weeks the head of the Executive has preferred not to risk the portfolios that work for him, such as some of the so-called State ones, although he has opted for many new faces for the rest of his team..

Pilar Alegría is another of the people who remains in the Government, with greater projection. It will be the new image of the Moncloa, as the new spokesperson and the Education portfolio will add the Sports competencies, which are separated from Culture.

The five ministers of Sumar

After assuming that Sánchez would reduce his cabinet, the president has chosen to maintain the number and also the quota for the government's minority party.. It will be Yolanda Díaz who heads the magenta wing of the Executive, with the vice presidency and presumably Labor. The rest of the portfolios will be distributed between the parties with the doubt as to whether Podemos will finally have a seat in the Council of Ministers.

Díaz will be accompanied, according to Alejandro López de Miguel, by Mónica García (Más Madrid) in Health, Ernest Urtasun (Sumar) in Culture, and Sira Rego (IU) in a newly created ministry that will encompass Youth and Childhood policies. The name for the Social Rights portfolio, which Ione Belarra now occupies, is the former purple leader Pablo Bustinduy after Nacho Álvarez, to whom Díaz offered a portfolio, resigned due to the divorce between Podemos and Sumar.
