Sumar rejects the proposal of Podemos to go alone in the Valencian Community and together in the rest of Spain

SPAIN

Podemos already proposes that the possible confluence with Sumar does not extend to all of Spain. As EL MUNDO has been able to confirm, the party led by Ione Belarra has proposed in the last hours of negotiations to go alone in the Valencian Community, where they assure that one of Yolanda Díaz's partners, Compromís, “has vetoed” the purple formation .

“It has vetoed us up to now and there has been no way for Podem to also participate in the lists in the Valencian Community,” say party sources, who assure that proposing this formula can help “unblock” the situation.

An expectation that the platform led by Yolanda Díaz rejects. “We are not contemplating it,” they say from the coalition, which has until midnight this Friday to add members, with Podemos as the main and definitive doubt.

This last proposal has been known hours after Ione Belarra launched a surprise consultation with the militancy to shield the decision-making power of its leaders on the final agreement with Sumar, amid the strong internal tensions that the formation is enduring.

The referendum proposed to the bases has an open formulation: “Do you accept that the Podemos Coordination Council, following the unity criteria set by the State Citizen Council, negotiate with Sumar and, where appropriate, agree on an electoral alliance between Podemos and Add?”.

But this “criterion of unity set by the State Citizen Council” gives all the decision-making power to the leadership of Podemos, since the criteria set in that body was that the purple party has to have a leading role in the coalition, a condition difficult to accept for many of the parties that make up Sumar, especially after the results of 28-M.

The question leaves the final decision on any formula in agreement with Sumar in the hands of the Podemos Executive, the only one entitled to make the decision after the wave of internal criticism from different territories.

This implies that there will be no subsequent consultation with the militants to give their opinion on the conditions offered by Sumar.. It will be exclusively from the leadership headed by the general secretary, Ione Belarra, who will pass the sentence.
