The 'popular' take over Valladolid, Burgos and Segovia thanks to Vox

SPAIN

The Popular Party obtained a magnificent result yesterday in the municipal elections of Castilla y León, where regional elections were not held. The popular will be able to recover three provincial capitals that were in the hands of the PSOE, including the Castilian-Leonese capital, to which Burgos and Segovia are added. In all three they would obtain an absolute majority from Vox. In addition, in Salamanca, the only one in which he governed, he will be able to continue doing so alone because he reaches an absolute majority.

The blow that the socialists receive is hard. In Valladolid, Óscar Puente ties the popular ones of Jesús Julio Carnero with 11 councilors, but in the race for possible partners Vox (3) beats the left of Valladolid Toma la Palabra (2). If the right-wing pact failed, Puente would be mayor, having more votes than his PP rival.

What happened in Segovia stands out, where the PSOE had been in charge for two decades. His candidacy has sunk as much (from 10 to 7) as the popular one has risen (from 9 to 12). José Mazarías will be able to govern alone or look for the councilor he lacks for the absolute in Vox (2) or Cs, who survives with a councilor.

Burgos, the socialists lose by winning. Daniel de la Rosa is the most voted, but the fact that he achieves one more councilor (12) is not enough to counteract the rise of the PP (from 7 to 11) and Vox (from 2 to 4), which take the 5 of the missing Cs .

Three other Castilian-Leonese capitals are in the hands or at risk of local formations. In León, the victory has once again belonged to the socialist José Antonio Díez, who is even growing. But the key is from the Union of the Leonese People (UPL), which could support him up to an absolute majority or give it to the 8 councilors of the PP.

In the capital of Avila, Por Ávila, the split of the PP that already governed, wins the polls and repeats the majority of 11 councilors. Jesús Manuel Sánchez Cabrera will be able to continue in command alone or seek replacement for the 2 councilors of Cs who are no longer there. The options are PSOE (4), PP (7) and Vox (3).

As for Palencia, the peculiarity of a mayor of Cs disappears. The oranges are left without councilors and the PSOE wins with 10. The 3 of Vota Palencia will decide, which can give the majority to both PSOE and the PP-Vox block.

In Soria everything remains the same. The socialist Carlos Martínez has been mayor for 16 years and will continue another term with the same 12 councilors that represent more than half of the councils.

In Zamora, another incombustible mayor is not so. Francisco Guarido has clearly won again (10 councilors) to continue as the only mayor of the capital of the province of Izquierda Unida. Enough to govern, but no longer with an absolute majority. If you want it, you will have to negotiate to obtain the 3 councilors that you are missing and that the PSOE can offer you.
