The call that unleashed the nightmare in Moralzarzal: "Mom, the girls have died"

SPAIN / By Carmen Gomaro

A telephone startled Tania after 5.50 in the morning yesterday. It was his son, who, shocked, notified him that his other two daughters, ages 25 and 15, had been in a traffic accident at kilometer 38 of the M-608 when they collided with another vehicle at Collado Villalba.. “He was driving just a few cars behind his sisters… He told her: 'Mom, the girls have died'. Imagine…”, one of the mother's best friends told this newspaper yesterday, with red eyes, next to the San Miguel Arcángel de Moralzarzal parish.

This woman, Bulgarian like Tania and her two daughters, dressed in rigorous black for mourning. “I have spoken with her this morning [yesterday], but she did not know. I was medicated, dead in life. Who can expect to lose two daughters in the same second? I dare not even put myself in his skin. Now he is in Madrid, in the coroner's…. He had to go to recognize the bodies,” she detailed afflicted.

Beside her, her husband scowled.. “That curve… that damn curve. People always die there. It comes from a fairly long straight… Since we lived here I remember two other deaths in that section.” And he added: “They say that time heals everything… Bullshit. That can't be cured. And when a few days pass it will be worse, after burying them… When I go home and don't see them. And I start to miss them…”, this couple broke up.

Four women die, three of them minors, in a traffic accident in Collado Villalba

Two other minors from Moralzarzal, aged 16 and 13, who also lost their lives, were also traveling in the accident car.. Polina was driving, one of Tania's daughters, who had gone to pick up the three teenagers after they spent the night at the Collado Villalba parties.

They were our friends. In fact, we were with them on Saturday afternoon in Collado. They were very happy, they were full of life,” said a trio of adolescents who went with one of them to the Carmen Martín Gaite school, in the municipality itself.. And one of these kids specified: “I got along very well with the 13-year-old, Erika. I still don't believe it. We have a WhatsApp group and they put that four girls had died, but I thought I wouldn't know them. Until I began to see messages on social networks of “we will miss you”. In the end it was them. It's a huge disgrace.”

“The town is very bad”

While the pain and sorrow were palpable in the environment, chance wanted that yesterday, Sunday, a procession in honor of Corpus Christi went through the central streets of the municipality. “The town is very bad…. It is a tragedy, that God gives strength to these families,” said one of the participants in this Christian festival.

A few meters away, a group of young people hugged and cried for the driver, Polina, well known in the town for running the Arya cocktail bar, next to the bullring.. She was very close to her sister, as some friends of the deceased say. “They had a very good relationship, they were always seen smiling. He was a great person.”

At the moment, the Civil Guard continues to investigate this deadly crash. What is known so far, according to police sources, is that the Toyota Aygo where the four deceased were traveling left the road on the right side and, based on the first evidence, made “two or three sudden maneuvers”.. The car ended up colliding with another in which a 30-year-old woman was traveling, an agent of the Civil Guard itself at the Villalba barracks. She was transferred in serious condition to the Puerta de Hierro Hospital, where she underwent surgery yesterday afternoon after suffering several fractures.

“My daughter went to school with one of the girls, everyone here is in shock. And it is not enough that they give three days of mourning. This town has grown a lot in recent years, there is a lot of movement of vehicles on that road, two-way and quite narrow.. I have lost count of the accidents that have occurred on this section, it is a black spot that is also very poorly lit. They have to solve it so they don't have to regret any more misfortunes,” finished off another Moral Zarzaleña, adding her opinion to a wave of complaints about the problems that this road derives from.. Although from the Community of Madrid, they assure this newspaper, that this section is not considered a black point.

Some users took advantage of the announcement of the three days of mourning that the mayor decreed yesterday in the municipality, and that were announced on social networks, to answer virtually demanding measures in this regard.. “At night, the cars go with their high beams, and they blind you if they catch you driving in front,” explained a neighbor. Message accompanied by Beatriz: “Please, studies and solutions so that more people do not die. That these four deaths and all the previous ones do not remain on deaf ears.”
