The family of a dead musician in a hospital in Valencia: "They buried him without informing us"
The family of the Valencian musician Javier Mustieles, keyboard player in groups such as Mocedades or Tennessee, has denounced that the General Hospital of Valencia, where he died on July 5, decided that he should be buried in a tomb of the Valencian cemetery charity five days after his death without notifying his family despite having a contact.
This is how the ex-wife of the deceased musician, Alicia Renales, explains it to EFE, who points out that she has put the case in the hands of her lawyer and will file a complaint with the Hospital because she says she “does not understand” the “rush to bury” the body of her ex-husband and father of their son, aged 16, when he was “perfectly identified” because he had documentation.
From the General Hospital they have informed EFE that in the center “all the protocol has been complied with, an attempt was made to locate a relative without success”, and they add that it was a “delicate situation”..
“The Police were contacted, who provided a telephone number that was called repeatedly, as well as institutions to find out if anyone knew him and someone could be located,” they add.. “When the family came, all the actions that had been taken were explained to them,” they point out from the hospital.
The ex-wife of the Valencian musician has explained that he entered the hospital on the afternoon of July 4 suffering from a serious illness that he had for some time; He died the following night, on July 6 they began to process his burial with the City Council and, according to the Civil Registry certificate, he was buried on the 10th, as reported by the newspaper Las Provincias on Tuesday..
“I told the social worker: what a hurry were you in? Because he was identified, he had all his documentation, they found his SIP number and a brother's phone number, but they couldn't contact him because he was moving, he received many calls and he didn't answer to the mobile. It was an accumulation of calamities”, he points out to wonder if “the administration can make such hasty decisions”.
As he explains, on the 10th, early in the morning, a co-worker called the hospital because they had a performance in Navarra, but after the hospital refused to give him information, another co-worker went to the General and there they finally told him that he had died..
It was then that the family found out about his death, since his work colleagues asked the time of the burial, explains the musician's ex-wife, who adds that her contact with Javier, who was constantly doing concerts, was once a week..
Javier had a “deep depression” and a “chronic illness that embarrassed him” and for this reason, when the social workers asked him, he told them that he had no family, recalls Alicia, who adds that her ex-husband wanted to be cremated, but they will not be able to bury your body for five years.
“I understand that you have not provided a number, but the job of the social worker is to find a relative and even if your brother has not answered at first they should have continued to insist – he laments -. If they have undocumented corpses for months in the warehouse, what a hurry had to bury Javier in five days”.
“He had family and he had friends, but it gives me the feeling that he was prejudged and they screwed up to the bottom,” he criticizes.
