The M-608, a 45-kilometre road that runs between the A-1 (Venturada) and the M-601 (Collado Villalba) through Soto del Real, where four young women died this Sunday in a traffic accident , has registered a total of 189 road accidents since 2018.
According to the data provided to EFE by the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT), 10 people have died on that regionally owned highway in those 6 years in traffic accidents, in which another 14 have been seriously injured..
The accident this Sunday, which cost the lives of a 26-year-old woman, her 15-year-old sister and two of her friends, aged 16 and 13, took place at kilometer 38 of that two-way road in circulation, two kilometers from the town center of the Madrid town of Collado Villalba.
The four deceased were returning from the Collado Villalba festivities to Moralzarzal, where they lived, when the car driven by the 26-year-old woman, who had gone to pick up the three minors, collided with the vehicle of a Civil Guard agent, from 30 years old, who was seriously injured.
Since 2018 and to date, 24 accidents have been recorded in the section between kilometers 37 and 39 of that highway, which have resulted in 5 deaths and 3 serious injuries.. A section in which the acting mayor of Moralzarzal, Juan Carlos Rodríguez Osuna, has called for improvements to be made urgently.
In statements to EFE, after the minute of silence that has been observed in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento, the mayor has assured that the consistory has long warned the Community of Madrid, which has jurisdiction over the road, of its accident rate. And he has stressed that, although it is a road “with a lot of technical complication to improve it”, it is necessary to carry out the appropriate actions because there is also a large traffic of cyclists, heavy vehicles that circulate between the A-6 and the A- 1, and more than 20,000 cars daily.
Investigation sources consulted by EFE have indicated that the road conditions at the scene of the accident were good and have not influenced it, in which, in the absence of a complete report, there would be no speeding.
