The new mayor of Bermeo (Vizcaya), Asier Larrauri (EH Bildu), 32, presented his resignation this Sunday after suffering a traffic accident in the last few hours and throwing an alcohol rate higher than the allowed one.
In a personal letter released by the sovereignist coalition on his Twitter account, Larrauri, who took office as mayor of Bermeo this Saturday, points out that the incident took place this past dawn in Sollube, where he was later subjected to control by the Ertzaintza.
After indicating that he has always believed that public officials must have “exemplary behavior, and when that does not happen they must step aside”, the councilor stresses that for this reason he does not want to “tarnish the image of Bermeo or damage the good name of the party” which he represents. “Today I will ask the political leadership of EH Bildu to accept my resignation,” he added.
Likewise, Larrauri has apologized to the people from Bermeo who placed their trust in EH Bildu and in his person, “for not having known how to have the exemplary behavior required by the responsibility they gave me”.
“EH Bildu has a great team and I am convinced that the road they will take in the coming years will be fruitful and wonderful.. I wish them the best of luck,” he concludes.
