The Princess of Girona Foundation, in Zarzuela

SPAIN

The Princess of Girona Foundation is experiencing one of the key moments of the year these days. Yesterday the Talent Week began in the Catalan city, and they did so with an event in which they failed the School of the Year award, which went to CEIP Gumersindo Azcárate, from León. Once this week of festivities is over, the foundation that was created to bring together talent among youth sets its sights on the delivery of its awards, which will be held for another year, if it meets the deadlines for the last deliveries, at the beginning of summer.

One more year, the unknown is whether the Awards will return to Girona or will be held again in Barcelona. The tension caused by the independence process led the Girona City Council to declare Felipe VI persona non-grata and, later, to deny them the use of the Auditorium to give the awards, everything happened in 2017 so the following year, the Girona continued in the city, but in the space that the Roca brothers ceded to the Foundation.

Under the excuse that Barcelona is better connected to get there and to hold large events, since the end of the pandemic the awards have been organized in Barcelona, but with the hope of returning to Girona. Last year there was already a rapprochement with the visit of Princess Leonor with her sister Sofía to the Salvador Dalí museum in Figueres. It was the first normalization of the situation in the territory.

While in Girona the week of Talent was celebrated yesterday, the only stop on the Talent Tour that has not had institutional representation, since the Foundation assures that an invitation to Casa Real is not being proposed because this appointment occurs weeks after the delivery of the Awards, in Madrid the King and Queen opened the Palacio de la Zarzuela to the Delegate Commission of the Foundation. The economic closing of the financial year 2022 and the external audit report and the balance sheet and income statement as of March 31, 2023 were presented, the activity report January-May 2023 and the information of the working groups and activities were also assessed. of the different programs together with the progress of the Foundation during the first months of this year. The specific details of what was discussed in this meeting are private, so it is unknown if they set a date and place for the Awards ceremony.

The Princess is the honorary president of the foundation, however, she has not yet participated in these commitments, although she will be in charge of delivering the awards in her first public act after returning from the boarding school in Wales at the end of March. Where the ceremony will take place is still unknown.
