After announcing the current mayor of San Sebastián de los Reyes his intention to abstain to facilitate the investiture of the PP without Vox in the City Council and to approve its first Budgets, the response has come from the regional leadership of the PSOE in the form of a veto to this type of pacts with a statement that all municipal political leaderships have received.
Specifically, according to socialist sources, there are two guidelines that the political leaders of the PSOE-M. The first is that “the councilors elected on PSOE lists in Madrid will promote the formation of progressive governments with their votes.”. The second is that “in the event that the formation of progressive governments is not possible, the councilors elected on PSOE lists in Madrid will vote for their own candidacy, in no way facilitating the formation of right-wing governments.”
It is this second point that refers directly to the mayor of San Sebastián de los Reyes, Narciso Romero, who yesterday assured that he would abstain to allow the PP, winner of the elections, to govern alone and Vox not enter the municipal government. He even promised to approve the Budgets for the first year. Just the opposite of the guideline that is now promoted, just a few hours after its position, the regional management of Juan Lobato in its statement.
Because that letter also includes that any “other circumstance” related to these agreements “will have to be brought to the attention of the Regional Executive Commission, who will assess the most convenient proposal”. That is to say, it will be the leadership of the party who will assess whether they can be developed, the fundamental guideline being to avoid them.. However, Juan Lobato's team insists that their municipal leaders will have “freedom” in making certain decisions.
“It will be possible to support an ordinance or a specific governance issue, but it is not a general criterion to facilitate investitures without need,” sources from the PSOE-M already highlighted this morning, in a line more aligned with that of Moncloa and Ferraz, as in the statement, where the approach, and more in the middle of the electoral campaign for the generals, is to make the PP reach pacts with Vox to be able to use it as an electoral weapon.
The mayor of San Sebastián de los Reyes had moved in exactly the opposite direction, having offered his abstention so that the City Council “does not have to be left in the hands of Vox”. This was transmitted by the socialist candidate through a statement on his social networks, where he also stressed that his intention was to carry out “a resounding, but constructive opposition, far from politicking and only focused on improving the lives of citizens”. The current councilor did not have the option of repeating his mandate since the sum of the PSOE and Más Madrid does not exceed that of the popular ones, which will take over municipal control.
Guillermo Hita, until now mayor of Arganda del Rey and president of the Federation of Municipalities of Madrid, had also opened up to facilitating this investiture, stating that the PP could be invested in the second round without depending on Vox as it is the list with the most votes in the municipality. “I offer the dialogue. I am not offering to vote for him or a legislature agreement,” he said this Friday in a morning interview on Onda Cero.
