Unidas Podemos opens campaign making electoralism with the bank: presents a law to double its taxes

The campaign begins and with it the rallies and proposals. Unidas Podemos got up early and just 10 hours after the start of the 28-M electoral race, a bill was registered in Congress to double the special tax on banks. The goal is for it to go from the current 4.8% to 9.6%.

This is one of the points included in the framework program for the regional and municipal elections of Podemos that, now, it has also wanted to turn into a parliamentary initiative for discussion in Congress and to squeeze electorally in these elections, although the debate in the Camera will not be produced in any case before 28-M. However, the approach is to put pressure on the PSOE on its left and set its own profile.

The Unidas Podemos bill establishes the creation of a Social Responsibility Fund whose objective is to support vulnerable households. It would be financially endowed with the equivalent of half of the collection of the bank tax. In other words, the entire increase in the temporary tax would be used for this purpose.

In this way, sources from Unidas Podemos point out, aid will be established that allows these vulnerable families to “halve the increase in the monthly mortgage payment calculated as the difference between the payment corresponding to the last revision and the amount that it I had in February 2022”.

Unidas Podemos proposes in the law to implement the same aid for commercial premises and offices affected by economic activity, as long as they are owned by SMEs or self-employed persons who do not have more than three properties of this type and who have presented losses in the last year , as well as maintain debts with creditors according to the parameters specified in this law.
