Next Sunday, May 28, municipal elections will be held throughout Spain. In some communities, in addition, regional elections are also held. It can be said that this is the first great post-pandemic electoral contest. In these elections we are called to give confidence to those men and women candidates for mayor and their teams who have to carry out municipal policies for the next four years.
Special emphasis should be placed, at this time of the electoral campaign, where the parties want to make our projects reach the public, which barely three years ago, with the start of the pandemic and with its rapid rise, its terrible consequences and the measures that were they had to take, thinking about elections like the current ones seemed very difficult. The social, health and economic situation outlined a country, like the rest of the world, dedicated exclusively to the urgent and daily management of the pandemic and its consequences.
Today we can say that the future that is presented to us, despite the fact that our environment continues to give us news and situations that make the economy difficult, is better than expected.
That is why, in these elections it is about going out to vote with determination and pride.
It is about voting for a future forged on the collective challenge that we have overcome, as well as for the measures that have been taken and are being taken to protect and fortify our valuable Welfare State.. The champions of freedom do not say that to exercise it we need a healthy, safe and equal environment. That the differences are less and less, that the crises do not pay for the same and that the wealth that is created is distributed fairly.
Throughout these last three years, many city councils have worked hard to help their citizens have better prepared cities, healthier environments, improvements in employment and competitiveness, and have defended the collective achievements around our welfare state.
That is why it is important to also associate with these elections the protective shield launched by the Government of Spain, chaired by Pedro Sánchez, with agreements and historic improvements in interprofessional minimum wage, pensions, labor reform, scholarships, housing, energy expenditure, inflation control and the shopping basket, SMEs and the self-employed, investment in R&D, aid for young people, and a long list of measures aimed at protecting the most vulnerable, helping the working class and strengthening measures to create more and better employment in our country. Today, Spain is a better prepared country, not only to face the consequences of the covid and the war in Ukraine, but it is also one of the main European economies with more solid growth and a clearer roadmap for face the main challenges of the future. Also around climate change and especially the effects of drought and lack of water. Also in this the Government of Spain has taken the lead by establishing a package of measures to alleviate this problem. When we vote on Sunday the 28th, it will be necessary to know that neither the doomsayers of the catastrophe nor those who exude hate instead of reasons are achieving the objective of diverting the course of the country and of the social majority that wants progress.
In Catalonia, the role of Salvador Illa, head of the opposition, has also been highlighted in order to unblock Catalan politics, which has been submerged in the lack of control produced by the clash between the pro-independence parties. The policy of the first secretary of the PSC has been the key element to approve the budgets of a Generalitat installed in paralysis, of a Government inane and without objectives.
For this reason, and because on Sunday the 28th there will be many ballots to choose from, it is convenient to know what each ballot will mean. The PSC ballot in each town hall, the candidate for mayor of the PSC in each municipality is the guarantee of a municipal government that will combine responsible management, dialogue with progress and transparency with a future. The socialist ballot is the ballot of personal and collective pride. A ballot that symbolizes not lowering one's head in front of those who stir up ghosts of division or hatred, nor in front of those who want things not to work out so that things go better for them.. A ballot that symbolizes the power of social measures and the pride of not leaving anyone behind in the worst moments. Raising a social wall and building measures that make us feel proud.
Vote proudly on May 28.
