Vox takes advantage of the advance to redouble its "outstretched hand" to the PP: "It is a duty to build a great alternative"
Vox has taken advantage of the electoral advance executed this Monday by Pedro Sánchez to reiterate his “outstretched hand” to the Popular Party in the face of the formation of right-wing governments at the regional and local level. “It is a duty to build from the town halls and regions a great alternative to the terrible inheritance that the Sánchez pact has brought us,” the president of Vox, Santiago Abascal, launched on Monday, in a clear direction to Alberto Núñez Feijóo.
The news surprised the Vox leadership, which this Monday was meeting to analyze the day after after the good results obtained at the polls that consolidate the party as an unavoidable actor in practically all corners of Spain.. In fact, Vox has noted down both the “consequences” that have led to the President of the Government deciding to advance the general elections by almost half a year.
“It is the only positive news that Sánchez has given in these four years”, considered Abascal, who has celebrated that “the voice returns to the Spanish” and that an “opportunity” is now opening up to “close one of the darkest stages of the history of Spain” through a national electoral process that Vox has been demanding for a long time.
Moreover, he recalled that the purpose of the motion of censure that failed last March was to call elections for the month of May, coinciding with the elections held this Sunday at the local and regional level and that have resulted in a ” shift” to the right that has forced Sánchez to liquidate the legislature.
“Today is not a day for demands or ultimatums or thick words, but for an outstretched hand,” Abascal said to delegate responsibility to the PP. “There has been a party that has won in many regions and in many town halls and that does not have a majority to govern. That party is the one that has to decide if it is willing to build an alternative with us or if it is going to opt for another path.. Of course, our hand is outstretched.”
“It is the day to find out if we are going to count on the other side with respect, with high vision, with responsibility and with patriotism. That would be what is necessary to be able to speak and together build the alternative that the Spanish want as we have achieved in Castilla y León”, Abascal has launched as the only starting requirement for the PP. However, the message that Vox launches from the beginning is loaded with implicit demands: Abascal himself has assured that Vox from now on does not seek only to “defeat” the left at the polls, but also to “repeal all its harmful policies.”
They will elevate the conversations
For the moment, Abascal has confirmed that there have already been contacts between “working groups” at different levels by Vox and the PP in order to analyze possible alliances after the regional and local elections this Sunday. In any case, Abascal and Feijóo have not talked for now, although it is planned to raise the talks to the national level.
The scenario in which the right will have to move in the less than two months that remain until the general elections is not easy. The pre-campaign and the subsequent campaign will be marked by the negotiations between the PP and Vox to form governments in up to five territorial enclaves where until now the left held power: the Valencian Community, Aragon, Extremadura, Cantabria, the Balearic Islands, and also Murcia and Ceuta, where to date the PP governed.
Times are now set to the limit. The first calculations of the PP and Vox framed the negotiation phase in the weeks prior to the summer recess. Now, with the campaign starting on July 7, everything is accelerated. In any case, the president of Vox has ruled out that the shortening of the time frame will be detrimental to the future of these possible alliances.
