Vox threatens to repeat elections after being left out of the Murcia Assembly Table

SPAIN / By Cruz Ramiro

The PP has excluded Vox from the table of the Murcia Parliament, as they requested to favor the investiture of the PP candidate to preside over the Autonomous Community, Fernando López Miras, which could lead to the nine deputies that make up the parliamentary group of the party of Santiago Abascal to force the repetition of the regional elections.

The regional president of Vox in Murcia and parliamentary spokesman, José Ángel Antelo, said this Wednesday after the constitutive session of the Regional Assembly that “Genoa has decided that in the Region of Murcia it is necessary to go to elections”.

The Regional Assembly of Murcia, in a constituent session, has elected this Wednesday Visitación Martínez, from the Popular Party, as the new president of the Table, by obtaining the only support of the 21 votes that make up the popular bench.

In a press conference after the constitution of the autonomous Chamber and visibly angry, Antelo has assured that he feels “perplexed” to verify that the president of the Murcian PP and candidate to preside over the community, Fernando López Miras “has vetoed at the table” the presence of Vox, despite the fact that his party represents 18% of the electorate (9 of the 45 deputies).

From the first moment, he said, Vox has reached out to the PP to reach government agreements, “but Genoa has decided that in Murcia we have to go to elections”, he reiterated.

In his opinion, the “veto” of Vox is a national imposition, since López Miras “has no problem agreeing with whoever is necessary”, as he did in the last legislature, reaching agreements with defectors and maintaining a difficult stability, has indicated.

“We really continue with our hand outstretched, but the PP has just shown that it wants a call for elections,” he insisted, and regretted that in the few contacts held this Monday and Tuesday with the PP, the latter “has not offered us anything and He has asked us for everything in exchange for absolutely nothing”.

Yes, they will continue, he said, the pacts in the town halls, such as the one in Molina de Segura, where he has pointed out that the agreement with the PP is closed, although that party did not want to officially announce it.

Sources from the PP leadership have informed EFE that during the negotiations carried out with Vox, the popular were willing to give up one of their positions at the table but “never the presidency” because they consider that “it would be disproportionate” taking into account the representativeness of Abascal's party in the chamber.

According to the Statute of Autonomy of the Region of Murcia, once the parliament for this legislature is constituted, there is no deadline for the investiture debate to be held and if, after it, no candidate is sworn in as president, new regional elections could be called, unless they coincide with the celebration of the general elections.
